Unforgiven

Clint Eastwood’s meditation/reckoning for his career in Westerns won him his first Academy Award for Best Director. The 1992 movie also stars Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman, and both actors give some of their best performances (Hackman also won the Oscar). Eastwood plays grizzled old gunslinger William Munny, who takes on one more job years after he had turned to farming.
