Yes, we’re getting a movie of Cats. Yes, I mean the ’80s mega-musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber that featured lots of spandex, lots of dancing, and a few songs that have refused to leave your head for many years. Yes, this is the world we live in.

The trailer for Tom Hooper’s adaptation of this bonkers show drops on Friday, but for now, we have a behind-the-scenes look of what to expect.

Seriously, can we talk about the cast for this thing? James Corden, Idris Elba, Dame Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson, Jennifer Hudson, Sir Ian McKellen, and Taylor Swift? Together at last? Sure, why not?

What this video reveals is a whole lot of giant sets. It had already been revealed that the movie would have production design scaled up so that the human actors would be cat-sized by comparison because we no longer fear death and want to see sh*t get weird. It was also revealed that the cast would be CGI-d in terms of their faces and the addition of fur because, you know, cats. Given that the behind-the-scenes clip shows the cast practicing their dancing, which is a combination of styles, I for one am fascinated to see what this all looks like. They definitely aren’t going for the photo-realistic styling of The Lion King.

But of course, we still have many questions that need to be answered: Who is the target demographic for this movie? Will Jason Derulo constantly scream out that his name is Jason Derulo, just in case we forget? Will I have to write an article at Christmas-time on how the internet wants to f*ck sexy cat, Idris Elba? If this movie is a success, will we get a Starlight Express movie, complete with motion-capture train-people? Stay tuned for more updates!

Cats will premiere on December 20, 2019. Are you prepared?
