“From Madrid to Heaven” is the most famous slogan of the capital of Spain. If Madrileños usually refer to our city as the celestial antechamber, there is no better choice to see Madrid than from a bird’s eye view. This is because Madrid is about 655 meters above sea level, which makes it the tallest capital of the country, therefore, the closest to heaven.
Anyone who wants a memorable way to take in the highlights of the capital must take the cable car. Close to Plaza España, the cable car carries you above the city’s parks and the Manzanares river and offers the opportunity to look down over some of its most historic buildings.
You should make your way to Paseo Pintor de Rosales street (Argüelles Metro Station). If you want to avoid possible queues -specially during the weekends- there is the option of paying ahead online on the official website of Teleferico Madrid. The Round Trip Ticket costs 5,80 €, although if you are a group or you would rather a combined ticket (Teleférico + Zoo or Teleférico + Amusement park), the price varies.
Once in the air, a recorded commentary will tell you which side of the cable car to gaze out of, as well as describe what you are looking at. You will enjoy, from a completely different perspective, stunning views of Madrid, so have your camera ready as you’ll have a bird-eye view of many of the city’s famous attractions such as Parque del Oeste, the Royal palace
, Almudena cathedral, Príncipe Pío station and the Egyptian Temple of Debod.
The tour takes a total of eleven minutes to reach Casa del Campo, an ideal place for picnics or just hiking. Once you arrive you can walk around the park, have a snack in the restaurant located on the top floor of Casa Campo Station or take some photos from the restaurant’s terrace whose views are, maybe, the best panoramic of Madrid.
