Basically what I'm asking in the title.
Movies where the protagonist deals with loneliness and mental issues.
Dreams of a Life, a heartbreaking 2011 documentary. A filmmaker sets out to discover the life of Joyce Vincent, who died in her bedsit in North London in 2003. Her body wasn't discovered for three years, and newspaper reports offered few details of her life - not even a photograph.

some of my personal favorites....Her, Lost In translation, Fozcatcher, Taxi Driver, In the mood for love
That Cold Day in the Park by Robert Altman, a movie about a very lonely upper-class woman who give shelter to a boy she find in a park
Three Woman, also by Altman, more abstract, difficult to describe, basically about the life of a couple of lost girls in the middle of nowhere. these twos movies are utterly beautiful (and somewhat perturbing), i'll hope you'll like them as much as i do.
Sous le sable by François Ozon, the story of a woman who lose her husband and suffer from ptsd. simple but compelling
Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, by Tony Richardson. it's about a young boy who ends up in a reform school, can't really say more but it's great
