I found this to be informative and interesting although the colour coding system was a bit difficult to understand. It is also a bit confusing to navigate the pathway and to figure out where to go next! Having said that the audio tour was well worth it and you do get to see some objects of historical interest. I did not have time to tour inside the cathedral itself but it is quite impressive even from the outside. I think it would only take you half a day max to cover both this and the cathedral. There are lots of stairs involved so may not be suitable for anybody in a wheelchair/ with a buggy. Despite visiting on a cool rainy day it was also a bit muggy and warm so I would bear that in mind if planning a summer visit.

This is an archaeological site underneath the cathedral. It is fascinating to see history literally beneath history. They have color coded the different time periods to help you understand what you are looking at.
The audio guide was not as informative or easy to follow as it should be. Two of us who love history were confused at times. It was not always clear about where to go next and it was somewhat dull.
The site is certainly worth the visit. I would hope they would get a museum consultant in to give this amazing place some pep.

The archeological site under the cathedral provides a history lesson of both the cathedral and of the city itself. The site isn't particularly visually attractive or interesting - lots of earth, walls, foundations and a few mosaic floor tiles. The organisation of the site is very good with an audio guide and visual presentations around the site, together with models, showing how the cathedral and the city developed from early years of the last millennium. The site is large and the presentation of it is good. I didn't find that it held my interest to the end of our visit - one old wall looks pretty much like another and the regular re development of the cathedral over the centuries wasn't the most interesting history that I have heard. At 8 CHF the visit is decent value.

Great presentation, well organized, clean, fantastic work.

If you have time, go also to see the Cathedral. The view from the top is simply fantastic.
