Burghley House is a 16th-century country house built for Sir William Cecil, later 1st Baron Burghley, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1558 and 1587 and modelled on the privy lodgings of Richmond Palace. It was the residence of Cecil's descendants.

This is all that survives of the Palace built by Henry VII and so favoured by Elizabeth I that this is where she chose to spend her last days.
