From the makers of Coraline bring you ParaNorman, a much better stop-motion film than Coraline. This movie is about a boy who can use his powers to see the dead to save the whole town from a centuries-old curse from a misunderstood "witch". Once you start this movie, it is hard to stop. ParaNorman is made by people who went through the same feelings as Norman, like being rejected and called a freak, so the emotion has been captured into this remarkable film. The film is not really set in Halloween, so you can watch it at anytime of the year. Overall, if you like zombies, witches, and ghosts, then you should consider buying this on Blu-ray!
This movie is great. I had never seen it before but I love Coraline and recently saw Kubo and loved it as well. I enjoyed Paranorman more than Coraline and Kubo. I love that its Zombie b-movie inspired. There are a few scary moments but my 5 and 6 yr old were fine. They loved the movie because it has zombies and right now they're really into Plants Vs Zombies. At one point my 5 yr old looked at me with a smile on his face and said "I like this movie" .
An angry mob of the living attacks poor, abused zombies and a group of teenagers taking refuge inside a courthouse, bringing chaos and destruction to a small town. A little kid talks another little kid into not killing people, or maybe into not keeping them undead. A boy helps another boy reunite with the ghost of his beloved dog. This is a funny, touching anti-bullying movie and a parody of zombie and slasher films. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm glad I bought this movie. I had forgotten how much I liked it. Norman doesn't fit in and sees ghosts. He ends up saving the town with his gift and becoming closer to his family. Cute, fun and defiantly worth buying. I loved it but it might be scary for smaller kids. Unless they are into zombies and ghosts.
Ordered for a bday gift... it froze at chapter 12 sent it back for a new one, got exchanged one, froze at chapter 12, at least this disc let me skip ahead- unfortunately it was to chapter 17.... I tested on my DVD player, and 2 PCs it happens on each one- and I tried 3 other DVDs we have in each aswell and they all play just fine- sending back for refund (or I guess amazon account credit) and will find it locally to avoid this disappointment back and forth waiting and mailing back.
My 7-year-old daughter loves scary movies, she got that from me. She loved this movie, and so did I. It is a constant challenge to find movies that are interesting for both a child and an adult. This one is. It had a good story, just the right amount of scare for her, but would probably be too scary for most normal 7-year-old kids. We ended up buying it because she loved it so much. It has a good story - underneath all the paranormal stuff is a very thoughtful plot line about being yourself without worrying about what other people think. At 7 she is already dealing with "mean girls," and I think this movie was another step in her understanding she should let her freak flag fly, and have more confidence when dealing with those types of kids.

Great movie, maybe the 7 & up crowd is better suited than the kindergarten crowd. BUT do not buy this if you're looking for the digital copy. The code is expired and the company will not or cannot honor it, only provide an alternative movie.
We have seen this movie so many times and couldn't find it for free on any streams. My daughter suggested we buy it so we can watch it whenever. One of the best Halloween movies yet feel it will be a classis. Next is Coraline.
5.0 out of 5 starsHOWLINGLY FUNNY & SERIOUSLY ENTERTAINING HORROR HOMAGE.

This is a review of the excellent 2014 All Region Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D from Universal Pictures UK.
Although we are retired, we are great Animé and Cartoon fans. We loved ‘Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride’ (2005) (see my Review of 14 Dec 2019), which was made under contract by the Oregon-based stop-motion animation studios, LAIKA. LAIKA is owned by Phil Knight, one of the founders of Nike. His son, animator Travis Knight is the CEO, and since 2014, it has concentrated exclusively on feature films. Since the Knights took over the studios, all 5 of LAIKA’s feature films, plus ‘Corpse Bride’, have been nominated for the Best Animated Film OSCAR, and 4 for BAFTAs (of which one, ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ directed by Travis Knight, won).
Enjoying ‘Corpse Bride’ so much, led me to investigate the studio’s other films, and thus, to ‘ParaNorman’. What a delight! This 2012 film is superb on every level, and provides 92 minutes of great entertainment and enjoyment.
The cartoon is described as a ‘fantasy comedy horror’, and it is all of those. Older kids will love it, though it’s way too scary for young ones. It offers some genuinely frightening moments and a number of nods, winks and outright homage to a range of ghost, zombie and paranormal works. The fact that some of the most potentially spine-chilling scenes are also the most howlingly funny is by-the-by. And it is very, very funny, truly laugh-out-loud! I laughed till the tears ran!
The film explores a favourite film topic, the Puritans’ persecution of witches in pre-Independence New England. It is set in a small Massachusetts town, where a centuries-old witches curse still remains in place. The depiction of the town and its rural surroundings is quite beautiful; I particularly loved the Records Department in the Town Hall, and the road into town with its hairpin bends. And the characters are equally good, both the living and the dead (in a lovely shade of palest green). The main protagonists are so well drawn: my husband especially loved Alvin, the gormless school bully with his ear plugs; I thought Norman’s sister Courtney was wonderful, drawling on her phone and smitten by hunk Mitch. There are several well-known actors doing the voices, including John Goodman, Casey Affleck and the late Elaine Stritch. Distinguished English actor Bernard Hill voices the 18th Century court judge, Judge Hopkins, and Norman himself is voiced by young Australian star Kodi Smit-McPhee.
LAIKA has managed here to produce a work that has the feel of a genuine horror classic, that is seriously entertaining, and also has its heart, touchingly, very much in the right place.
3.0 out of 5 starsno UltraViolet code inside the 3d Bluray version despite the misleading box and picture
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 14, 2018
The image and sound are impecable, and it is dubbed in different languages. It is a remarkable work of art, since the stars. But the box says there is a leaflet inside, with an UltraViolet code. Well, there was none inside so I returned it. Amazon sent me a new one and I was quite happy, thinking the last one was a faulty one. When I opened it there were no leaflet nor code inside either, so I suppose it is a problem with all them. It is a pity, because it misleads you. Afterwards I saw in the other commentaries that others have also complained about that.
Love this film. Yes, I'm an adult, yes I like a good animation and yes, I'm a massive fan of ghosts, ghoulies and long leggity beasties and things that go bump in the night. Brilliant bit of entertainment for the whole family.

Both me and my daughter loved this movie. It is very funny with a great story line. Could be a little scary for young children but the comedy element evens it out. Very similar to Coraline, I think it was made by the same creaters. Perfect for Halloween. Be aware this is a Region 1 copy that can only be played on Multi region players but Region 2 copies are now available.
