Any Netgear NTV550 owners out there?

Still using my NTV550 (well, the kids are actually), but just for streaming movies from my WHS. For this, it works ok, but I agree, for a box that was sold as 'best in class' with loads of features that never really worked, it's really disappointing that Netgear dropped support to move onto the next one. Once Netgear do that, you can pretty much guarantee there will be no further fixes, so while mine is working for what I want it to do, I'm not expecting anything new.

I was in the market for another streaming box recently, and didn't even look at Netgear because of there attitude and support issues. I went with a Roku, and it's great (especially with the Plex client).

I contacted netgear about the fact that it didn't work, in terms of what it said on the box (eg netflix, blu-ary, youtube etc), and that support was dropped just 6 months after the release.

They said that if it was still in warantee they would fix everything.

so if one person has one within warantee, go to the netgear forum, get a list of all current bugs, and insist they fix them. This will then fix it for all of us!

I still use mine and I have never really been affected by the bugs that others have reported.

I recently discovered Plex and use it on my Nexus 7, whilst abroad to stream from my NAS. Whilst setting this up, I discovered that my LG TV has Plex built-in, so once I have time to do some comparisons, the NTV550 may take a back seat.

Good luck with that one. Netgear don't have the best reputation with this. I think even at it's peak, there were only 3-4 people working on the firmware for the 550, which is why there was so long in between updates. Can't see Netgear will allocate any resource to this now. It's just the way they operate.

Dune/Roku/WD etc seem to keeps the updates coming even for much older devices. As usual, the 550 hardware has so much potential, but the software just lets it down.

I'm still using my Netgear NeoTV 550 - but I'm not happy with it.

If I turn it off I can't turn it back on without reconnecting the power supply. If I leave it on, it goes to sleep and will not awake without reconnecting the power supply.

So every-time I want to use the damn thing I have to disconnect and reconnect the power supply.

If i'm really unlucky, it does a hardware reset and I have to reconfigure it as though it was new.

Eventually I want to replace it for a PC.

Perseverance paid off then! Still have my 550, and it's used now and again by the kids. I'm still disappointed that Netgear just dropped this device, but they've done this many times before, so I shouldn't really be surprised. I won't be buying any of there media boxes again though. Bought a couple of Roku 2 XS's last year, and they're far better. Roku (the company) isn't perfect, but it seriously puts Netgear in the shade.

I'm unable to solve a issue.

My NeoTv550 is able to search and add media locations on my PC however when i click on the shared folder it is unable to read/show files inside the location and gives a message : [No media files found]

This [No media files found] is only happening with USB connected devices/hdd. Devices connected via SATA are working fine.

Can anyone please help in how to resolve this ?

Thanks.
