the poor writing gives into its own mob mentality by making those in the boot camp literally become caricatures of angry villagers from an old Frankenstein film

Oct 17, 2011Pretty average movie about a "tough love" boot camp for troubled teens. Okay concept I guess, but not very exceptional execution. Mila Kunis was still very much a sitcom actress (and still is as far as I'm concerned Black Swan was a fluke.) Peter Sormare is good as the villain but he does seem to be working on autopilot at the same time. Story itself was pretty generic and never really surprised me as to where it was going. I think too much time was spent on the backstory of the kids. Having the film begin on the camp and knowing as little as possible about why the kids are there would have been a lot more impactful I think. Breaking away to flashbacks and such kind of kills what ever momentum was starting to build on the Island. In short I'd say watch Battle Royale instead. That has everything this has and a lot more. Jul 19, 2011"Based on a true story" my ass. It was so dramatized and unrealistic. There's no way that story was at all true. I think the cruelty of the boot camp was possibly true, but it was definitely not based on any true story- it was inspired at best. I think if the director wanted to make a true story, he should've just done a documentary about real camps instead of making his own fake one. But anyways....the movie was kind of boring. It was like the same kids getting beat up in every single scene. It was pretty stupid and not entertaining.Japes . Super Reviewer

Feb 20, 2011I never knew boot camps like this existed until hearing about them on the news & elsewhere.I guess it's where rich people send their kids when they get out of control cauz nobody I know could afford to send their kids to an island out in the middle of nowhere.Boot Camp was alright.It's worth watching onceBrody M Super Reviewer
