The Erie Canal can e enjoyed by boat, bike, or walking. You can go for miles or just to sit and relax. All along the canal are little parks or areas to stop for food and shopping. The walking/bike paths follow the canal through both residential areas and nature paths. If you have time be sure to take a canal boat ride through the locks and even an evening dinner cruise with food and entertainment as you travel the canal.

Great place to run , walk or bike. Path isn't great for road bikes. Also good for walking the dog. I go frequently.

We biked a portion of the canal around Fairport, NY. In addition we visited the Corning Barge at Fairport on July 20. The town is very nice. The bike trail from Fairport to Pittsford is a nice seven mile ride and the town of Pittsford has a beautiful waterfront area, where we stopped for a rest. The canal is active with boats, kayakers and wildlife. We are definitely going back to try other areas.

We were looking for a team building event for our leadership team. Our admin suggested a boat cruise along the Erie Canal.

It was a great time! We cruised up the canal checking out the houses, enjoying the weather, and socializing.

After a bit we went through a loch where they raised the boat to enter another section of the river. Kind of a cool experience to see a marvel of human effort and innovation (and remembering a song from grade school).

If you are looking for something uniquely Rochester, a boat cruise on the canal is a good time.

The Erie canal is steeped in history and offers miles of canal views. Do your research and see how history was made with the creation of the Erie Canal.
