Ocean County Prosecutor Billhimer names top deputy, chief of detectives
TOMS RIVER - Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer appointed a Brick attorney and former assistant prosecutor to be second in command of the prosecutor’s office, and a 24-year veteran detective to lead his investigative staff.
Michael T. Nolan Jr. was sworn in Thursday by Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels as first assistant Ocean County prosecutor, Billhimer said.
Billhimer, who took the reins of the prosecutor’s office on Oct. 8, said Friday that he promoted Vincent A. Petrecca, a captain in the prosecutor’s office, to chief of detectives.

He said it is the first time in about three decades that a chief of detectives was promoted from within the office.
“We are excited to have Chief Petrecca lead our county’s troops," Billhimer said in a post on the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Facebook page.
“Nolan is returning to public service after practicing law in the private sector for almost 20 years," Billhimer said in a Facebook post.
Nolan previously served as an assistant prosecutor in Ocean County before going into private practice, Billhimer said. He previously served as law clerk to Superior Court Judge John D’Amico Jr. in Monmouth County. Until this year, Nolan was a member of the Ocean County Ehtics Committee. He is a member of the Ocean and Monmouth county bar associations. He earned his law degree from Seton Hall Law School.
“We are excited to have him back at the Ocean county Prosecutor’s Office and as our first assistant," Billhimer said.
Petrecca joined the investigative staff of the prosecutor’s office in 1994. He served in the special investigations unit since 2003. He was promoted to sergeant in 2006, lieutenant in 2010, and captain in 2017.
