The best spot for 4th of July fireworks!
Jul 2021
We visited on the 4th of July. The beach was extremely crowded and parking lot was full but we didn't have to walk far. The bathrooms and concession were open, so that was good. The water was pretty still since you are in the bay, no waves. There were crabs or something pinching our feet. Definitely the place to be for the fireworks since they were directly in front of us on a barge.

Visit after dinner!
Jun 2021
On a June summer night after dinner in town, we decided to give the beach a visit. The sky is still bright but most of the beach goers had gone home. We had a very relaxing time here and snatched lots and lots of great photo. Try visit this place after dinner. It's not crowded and there still is lots of fun.

Cute town, quaint, and quiet.
Jan 2021 • Friends
I love going to Lewes when in DE and staying nearby in Rehoboth. It’s about a 35 minute drive to the the town center~ longer during high season. There’s great food, plenty walk around and see and shop. The beach is great because it’s never really crowded.

Health Advisory
Jun 2018 • Family
City of Lewes closed beaches due to level of bacteria in the water from recent rains. This happens so often now and is a threat to the health of young children. Keep an eye on the city reports.

5 stars for Lewes Beach, 1 star for Cape Shores
Jun 2015 • Family
We have been spending June in Lewes for 18 years, and we love it here. We started because it's a Bay-front town and our children were small; we wanted a quiet small-town feel, and we wanted a bay beach (no waves). It was perfect! We still come here, and our kids are 18 & 21 and still love it.

LEWES BEACH: Small, uncrowded, clean, bay beach. PERFECT for small kids.

CAPE HENLOPEN: Beautiful state park adjacent to Lewes beach, great bike trails, great nature center for little ones, nice ocean beach with showers etc, frisbee golf, and more. The place to come for the day when your kids have outgrown the bay. An easy bike ride from anywhere in Lewes.

RESTAURANTS: Striper Bites is our favorite, we also love Half Full. The Buttery is good food but bad service.

RENTALS: We have been renting in Cape Shores for 7 years. It's the most expensive beachfront development, but we like it because it is adjacent to the state park which means nice views, plus easy access to walking / biking trails. We also like it's lovely pool - it's refreshing after a long salty day at the beach. However, they have a new (or newly enforced) policy this year: For SEVEN (yes, seven) hours of the day, the pool is for owners only. Although you are paying quite a bit to rent here, your renter's pool pass (which you get from the realtor) does not allow you in, 7 hours of the day (& all day on July 4th). You need a keycard, which you will not get. This is not a crowding issue as we are not here at the same time as the owners; we are here in lieu of the owners. No, this is an issue of owners not wanting renter "riff-raff" in their pool. I'm disgusted and will not rent here again. We'll go to Port Lewes or Pilot Point, or just get a beach cottage.

Build sandcastles on the Market Street Beach, with the Sandcastle Lady - August/September
I spend 6 weeks every August and September, building castles and sculptures on Lewes Beach - and teach anyone who'd like to learn how to do it, for the pure delight in seeing castles being built up and down the beach! Come down to the Market Street Beach (just North of the public beach,) and look for the Sandcastle Lady.

GREAT FISHING & BEACH CLOSE TO HOME!!!
Sep 2010 • Friends
The Pier here is REALLY NICE!!! Went here with a Big Church Group and had a GREAT TIME!!! You can catch Spot, Blue Fish, Croaker, Flounder, Puffer Fish Crabs and Sharks!
If you stay long enough you might get the odd chance of seeing a Dolphin jump out of the water! It's Fresh Water & Salt Water! Bring your own Chair, Cooler with your Food,Snacks & Favorite Drinks , a couple of Fishing Poles and RELAX East Coast Style! If Fishing aint your thing the Sand here is VERY soft and welcoming.....Kick off your shoes and go to it!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Real "beach" experience
Sep 2017
This is by far one of my most favorite beaches in the world. I was more than pleasantly surprised when I arrived at this beach considering its close proximity to shops and accommodations. One would think that a beach in that area would be your typical combed and crowded sort but not this beach. Here you will get more of an authentic beach experience. There were lots of sea life and shells upon the shore and not a lot of people! My idea of perfect beach and the kids love it too because they had space to spread out and plenty of fun things to play with from the shore line.

Great beach on the harbor
Jun 2012 • Couples
Great beach on the harbor. Lewes beach is less crowded than the nearby beaches on the ocean. There are lots of beautiful sailboats on the weekends. Drive directly to the beach on E. Savannah St. There are nice public parking lots where you can park for a fee. These include public rest rooms. Alternatively, just prior to reaching the beach on E. Savannah St., turn left on Cedar St and drive to the area around Delaware St. Once you pass Delaware, you should be able to find free street parking on Cedar Street in this area and then you can walk one block to the beach. This area of the beach is less crowded than the beach near the public parking lots.

Our favorite beach........
Sep 2011
First of all, since Lewes beach is actually on the Delaware Bay, behind a "breakwater." it is not an ocean beach with wave action, so scratch it off the list if your boogie-boarding/wave jumping clan is in need of breaking waves. Converesely, if you have very young children, this is an ideal protected beach, because not only is it relatively waveless (other than minor ones caused by wind and boat wakes), it also features a very gradual slope into deeper water and even sand bar islands at low tide kids love to wade out onto. Tends to be good for shell hunting at times. We also enjoy watching the ferries come and go and the freighter traffic on the horizon.

A further plus, if you have a lot of beach gear in tow or mobility challenged people, is convenient, ample "right at the sand" paved metered parking (via computerized meter kiosks). You will also find a public beach house with bathrooms and showers and a snack bar right on the beach (there is also a Dairy Queen just steps away from the parking lot). I'm describing the main beach at the terminus of Savannah Rd. There is also a separate, second parking lot a few hundred yards east of the main lot (going toward the ferry terminal). This smaller lot does not offer as many spaces adjacent to the beach and features only small bathrooms that are sometimes locked.

There is a third parking area at the dead end of Bay Ave. (often called "fisherman's beach"). This is next to the jetty at Roosevelt Inlet and will have a lot of boat traffic and wakes. An unprotected beach that only features porta-potties. Good for fishing and pets.
