While everybody has been locked up in their houses, for over 21 days now, the biggest concern apart from the physical health is the mental health of the people.

If you think that is a minor issue, then you are mistaken. We will narrate how mental health affected the talented actor who portrayed the role of Joker in the Dark Knght, Heath Ledger.

To prepare for the role of the Joker in The Dark Knight, the legendary actor locked himself up in a hotel room for a month and maintained a diary to record his observations.

He told the Empire magazine in a 2007 interview, “It’s a combination of reading all the comic books I could that were relevant to the script and then just closing my eyes and meditating on it. I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices — it was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh. I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath — someone with very little to no conscience towards his acts. He’s just an absolute sociopath, a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown.

But was he really depressed? In a recent documentary about the actor, his sister said,” “He was having fun. He wasn’t depressed about the Joker.” He also went to great lengths to play a role.

Ledger mentioned in an interview to New York Times that playing the Joker was ‘physically and mentally draining’. This affected his already troubled sleep. The actor said that he could not sleep for more than two hours on certain days.

Kim Ledger said in the documentary, “He galvanized the upcoming character. That was typical of Heath. He would do that. He liked to dive into his characters, but this time he really took it up a notch.

Actor Heath Ledger’s death was caused due to an accidental overdose. It forever cast a shadow on the film The Dark Knight. Ledger played the role of Joker opposite Christian Bale’s Batman.
