Hotel was dreadful - currently being used as housing for Afghan Refugees. They should NOT be taking bookings from paying customers!!!! I understand they need to be placed somewhere but the whole experience was intimidating to me and my young daughters as the men were just wandering up and down outside and staring at us constantly. The little Afghan children running riot inside , running up and down the corridors and in and out of reception, the whole place stank. We went to look at the pool facilities (as its advertised as a Spa!) - the pool area was filthy and the spa was permanently closed! This is not mentioned anywhere on their website. We viewed our room, which was incredibly hard to find, and it had no window!!! The photos on the website are mis leading to say the least. The hotel outside was run down, bags pf rubbish everywhere, broken garden furniture piled up, it looked a mess. Nothing like the beautiful photos on their website. We went straight back to reception and asked for a refund after spending literally 10 minutes there. The young girl on reception just said OK can I have your card! Didn't ask why, she looked as if it had happened a lot. No way was I going to stay there with my children, it was not safe, and it was not clean! Will never come here again

I checked in to Basingstoke Country Hotel in September 12th, and I have to say I'm utterly disappointed with this hotel, and the standards are no way near a 4-star hotel should be. I'm at a loss, and I'm not sure where to begin. I booked this hotel with a lot of hope to have a great time since it's my partner's birthday. Also, we haven't had any holidays since October last year due to the effect of the global pandemic and the lockdowns we had in the UK. And we were gutted by the poor service and the underrated experience we had with the hotel. As a starter, the aircon unit was not working, and it was boiling in the room because it was a decent summer day. When we requested a different room with a properly working aircon unit, the receptionist refused and said almost all the air conditioning machines in the hotel were malfunctioning. When I enquired her why didn't she notify me of this when I was checking in, she stated that she's not at liberty to disclose to the customers. In addition to that, the room was not adequately cleaned. Especially one of the armchairs had some disgusting looking marks that almost looked like semen marks/ residues. Also, the bathroom sink was cracked, and the furniture had several bumps indicating some late damage previously. Also, the pop-up mechanism of the bidet was jammed, and we were unable to use the bidet. The worst part is the unfriendly staff who lack empathy and courtesy towards the customers and a hotel that falsely advertise and rob people's money blindly. They charge a lot and don't bother to provide customers with basic needs. Think wisely and stay away from this hotel.

We stayed here for our anniversary along with my brother in law and his wife for their anniversary. We parked at the back of the hotel and it was full of rubbish and looked like we had come to the tip. We booked in at 4pm and were given the keys to our room. When we walked into our room there was a very heavy smell of cigarette smoke. We went back down to reception to say and they offered us another room which needed to be cleaned so we had to wait half an hour to collect keys. Once we got into our new room you could tell it was in need of a good lick of paint and a proper good clean but because it was getting late and the sheets were clean we didn't want to go down and ask again to be moved. We overlooked the courtyard area and I noticed the young children playing hopscotch and drawing with chalk on the ground and learning to count in English. I didn't think anything unusual about this until we went to dinner and we noticed around 10 family's with young children running around grabbing and helping themselves to food on the buffet and taking it back to their table and then removing it from the restaurant to take back to their rooms. We soon worked out that the place was for the home settlers from Afghanistan. The food was very unappetising with nothing left for a vegetarian like myself. On talking to the three young staff we were told that they were catering for the refugees and also that the spa would not be open as it was being used at this time as a Dr's surgery. I have nothing against the home settlers being here but I think the paying public who have paid for a spa weekend as advertised on britania hotels and booking. Com. should be told that at this time it is being used as a home for home settlers and it should not be advertised as a hotel. The hotel itself is in need of some tlc. Very dirty with glasses from the night before being left all over the place and and the whole place is falling to bits We ended up eating out and just using the place to sleep. Never again will we stay here.

We didn't use the pool so I can't help. However when we stayed last Sept the hotel was in such a poor state - (See my review and others) I would not advise staying there even if they paid you to use the pool!
