In order to keep the Gonzaga community informed about the total number of students, faculty, and staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19, we are providing regular updates on positive cases and student testing data.
The accuracy of our reported cases – and our successful risk mitigation strategy – is dependent upon members of the community completing daily health screening, efficient and reliable testing for COVID-19, contact tracing in partnership with the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD), as well as isolation and quarantine protocols established by the University.
- Weekly COVID-19 Student Tests data is updated each Monday, reflecting the number of tests conducted for students the week prior (Sat.–Fri.). The current week’s testing and positive numbers are current and will be further updated as additional data becomes available.
- Gonzaga's testing program applies only to students. Students who are tested by an outside provider are only counted in our active/cumulative case data if they self-report the test, and are not included in the University student test data. If a student self-reports a positive test result, they are not counted in our active/cumulative case data until the positive result is confirmed by the Spokane Regional Health District.
- Employees are tested by outside providers and may self-report tests and/or positive results to Gonzaga. Employees who self-report positive results are not counted in our active/cumulative case data until the positive is confirmed by the Spokane Regional Health District.
- Positivity rates are based only on tests conducted by Gonzaga for students. It does not include tests conducted by outside providers for students or employees.
- Cumulative and current positives data is updated Mon.–Fri. by 5 p.m. PT, with the exception of Gonzaga holidays. After data is updated, it may take up to two hours to display in this page.
- Cumulative positives include laboratory-confirmed reported positives of students, faculty and staff who were on campus during the period that they were infectious, as well as those who were not on campus when infectious, starting with the first Clery Act-reportable COVID-19 positive on July 17, 2020.
- A current positive is an individual with a laboratory-confirmed positive test for COVID-19 who is currently completing a period of isolation.
- When Gonzaga receives a report of a positive test from an employee after the isolation period has been completed, the positive test is included in the week that it is reported, but does not appear in the “currently positive” count on the top of the “Weekly COVID-19 Positives” chart.
- Isolation & Quarantine Capacity
- Some quarantine beds are available for isolation.
- Isolation and quarantine beds in use reflect reported inventory (not necessarily cases).
- Quarantine and isolation dedicated spaces vary depending on housing occupancy each term and off-site availability.
Important Actions to Mitigate Risk
- Complete the regular symptoms screening using the ZagCheck app, or a web browser at: www.gonzaga.edu/ZagCheck.
- Call the COVID-19 hotline at (509) 313-7070, and select option 1, if:
- You have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19. Please immediately self-quarantine.
- You have received a positive test for COVID-19. Please immediately isolate from others.
- You are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
- Follow critical hygiene behaviors including handwashing, physical distancing, wearing of face masks or other personal protective equipment (PPE) when around others (inside or outside), staying home when experiencing symptoms, and daily disinfecting of surfaces.

- There are no walk-in clinics or on-demand testing in place through February 8.
Gonzaga has contracted with two medical laboratories in Spokane to conduct testing. Professionals will be on campus regularly and will provide ongoing support throughout the academic year. Test results are typically processed within 48 hours of the test date and reported to the University Health and Counseling Center as well as the Spokane Regional Health District.
Appropriate medical follow-up, including COVID-19 contact tracing, is provided by medical staff and trained COVID-19 contact tracers at the University.
Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff seeking testing are asked to contact their health care provider, quarantine if experiencing symptoms, and report a positive test result to the COVID-19 hotline at (509) 313-7070 (select option 1 to reach the contact tracing team).
Daily symptoms screening is a critical component of contact tracing. Gonzaga has hired a team of four contract tracers who work in our Health and Counseling Services department. They provide contact tracing and education on an ongoing basis and work in close coordination with Spokane Regional Health District.
Privacy, Stigmatization and Bias
Gonzaga University strives at all times to respect the privacy and medical confidentiality of our community members who have tested positive for COVID-19. We will not disclose the names of individuals who have tested positive when reporting cases, or when conducting contact tracing.
Further, Gonzaga has a strong commitment to combating stigmatization, bias and xenophobia related to COVID-19.
