This was such a great start to the series, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was absolutely captivated from the start. Before I knew it I was already finished and I was disappointed that it was over! There was the perfect balance of time travel and Viking lore and romance, there was just the right amount of each and it was nicely spread around.

Boring. DNF at a third of the way into the book. It’s not a bad book in any way. The writing is rather good. But nothing happened! Too much world building and too many characters from previous book series that that bored me as they tried to explain everyone’s past history. Seriously, it seems like everyone in the Viking past (and half of the present day characters too) had some role in previous books and I was supposed to automatically feel connected to them, but since I didn’t read the other se ...more

A strong handsome Viking shows up in her dreams and under the tree in front of their new house, and warns her to stay away. Her sisters carry Dragon blood, and at difficult times have nearly changed. She promised her father to watch over them, but dragons are touchy creatures with minds of their owns, and not easy to lead , even now a few are ...more

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review and purchased the published addition. A new series by Sky sends us back to the land of the Vikings and reunites us with old friends from series past.

I fell in love with Heidrek when he was just a child struggling to find his way in a world that was turned upside down, cringed when he thought to better his elders over a woman and marveled at the hidden strength and power we got glimpses of as he travelled to the future to help others in their t

I was a little apprehensive starting this new installment of the MacLomain's. Read the Viking Ancestors series first and loved all three of those but wasn't so thrilled with the Scottish stories. So, back to the Ancestor's kin and I am in love again! Great pacing, great characters and an exciting story. I wish we had a bit more time with the original brothers but I am happy that they are there on the periphery at least. Looking forward to the rest of the series. ...more

Fantasy, Dragon shifters, time travel, romance, Viking men, strong females these stories have it all! If you've read other books about this family of women and their Dragon shifters you'll be happy to know many make appearances in this next chapter of strong women and the men they fall for and who drive them crazy!

I really loved this! Wasn't sure quite what to make of it at first, it seemed like it was trying to throw a lot together, but once the pattern emerged it was amazingly intricate and I loved the entire story! I probably should've read the earlier series first, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything as Cybil gets thrown into the historic dragon shifter society and their legends. Great story, looking forward to reading more! ...more

Good book, but.. I don’t know. It’s like it started in the middle of something I was supposed to know about. It was predictable it’s strong girl drops inst strange circumstances as is it’s an everyday occurrence and big handsome and looses himself and can’t think straight anymore because of her. Yada-yada.

This such an invigorating tale, I have ensured that I have the other books by this author.
It has, prophets, shape-shifting dragons, viking mythology and a very vibrant love story. Oh! And time travelers also. What more could you ask for.
Yes I am gushing, as it was one stupendous read!

Fast and easy light reading.

I read this over a weekend while being bed-bound. It was a light, easy story that constantly moved and didn’t waste too much time on the main characters fighting/denying their love for each other.

I really loved it !

Great story, lots of action, mystery. This Author seems to have a knack for interweaving her characters and stories to a seamless from one to the next. Very rich in depth and leaves not a dull moment.

Great world-building; thrilling; unexpected!!!

Time Travel romance is fast becoming one of my favorite genres. This is another of those great series that I know I will love and cherish forever.

I haven't read the previous books of the spin-off series, but it's something that I intend to do pretty soon. Ms. Purington has crafty taken me into a world of dragons, prophecies and mythology that is super creative and well written and that left me wanting more.

Great twist on mythology

I really liked this book. It was an interesting tale, but I felt there were details missing that if included would have made the story small smoother.

Rise of a Viking is the first of the MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin. This book starts out with Cybil enjoying a fast boat ride with her sister Samantha. Cybil has visions, but doesn’t want to share that she has this gift with her sisters, but she doesn’t know how much longer she can keep it a secret, now that they are all living in their new house, and some of the visions are centered about the house. Sean worries about Cybil getting in to trouble with underestimating the danger that t ...more

Whether Purington is writing about Vikings or Celts her writing has the ability to make you believe what she is telling you. When a Dragon takes off in flight you can see it and not only that, you believe it is possible. When the heroine has a vision so real you can see it you know that it is true. Her characters are complex, flawed but courageous and each must find his or her way with the occasional assist of magic, and even a Celt or Viking god. The struggles seem unsurmountable but somehow we ...more
