"Our sharing in the body and blood of Christ..." - Pope Leo the Great

"The body that lay lifeless in the tomb is ours. The body that rose again on the third day is ours. The body that ascended above all the heights of heaven to the right hand of the Father’s glory is ours. If then we walk in the way of his commandments, and are not ashamed to acknowledge the price he paid for our salvation in a lowly body, we too are to rise to share his glory." - Pope Leo the Great

Vision of Pope Leo XIII :Saint Michael the Archangel

THE DEMONIC VISION OF POPE LEO XIII AND THE SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL PRAYER In 1886 Pope Leo XIII instituted what would later be known as the “Leonine Prayers” after Mass (something familiar to those who have attended a Low Mass in the Extraordinary Form). These prayers include the well-known Prayer to St. Michael. Not much is known for certain about the origin of this prayer, but it is believed by many historians that Pope Leo had a profound vision that sparked its creation. According to…

size: 24x18in Giclee Print: Head of Pope Leo X by Giulio Romano :

Pope Leo X, reigning pope at the start of the Protestant Reformation. One of the church's most corrupt pontiffs. Built St. Peter's Bascilica in Rome by selling indulgences. Has style, though: Camauro, pectoral cross, shoulder cape, rochette.

Pope Leo X | “God gave us this, let us enjoy it”

A product of the Medici clan, he entered the clergy as a boy and was elevated to the papacy as a young man. His lifestyle was more secular than spiritual and his use of indulgences brought about a revolution within Christianity. The perfect foil for Martin Luther, his reign was consumed by the Reformation.

Pope Leo X 1475 – 1521. Pope from 1513 to his death in 1521. Was born Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici, He is known for starting indulgences.(paying catholic for forgiveness of your sins) and the writing the Exsurge Domine challenging of Martin Luther 95 Theses. Pope Leo XIII and the Feast of the Holy Family

Pope Leo XIII holds a special place in my heart because he made Father John Henry Newman of the Oratory a Cardinal, even though he knew it might cause trouble, and referred to Newman as ‘Il mio cardinale’ (My Cardinal)! But I did not realize how important his influence was to the feast of the Holy Family, which we celebrate today! According to this blog: The Feast of the Holy Family is of recent origin. A few weeks ago I was looking through the manuscript Royal MS 10 E IV where I found a few depictions of Pope Leo having his hand chopped off. After some sleuthing, I discovered that these images were illustrations from a story in The Golden Legend. (More details about that text can be found here.) While Royal MS 10 E IV actually contains The Decretals of Gregory IX (AKA the Smithfield Decretals), I was still rather curious about the context regarding Pope Leo’s hand.

Renaissance and Reformation | George S. Stuart Historical Figures

The Renaissance was offspring of wealthy Italian merchants and bankers like the Florentine Ludovico Sforza, Lorenzo de Medici and Philip II of Spain. Instead of enlightenment, the family Borgia sought power and is represented here by siblings Juan Borgia, Cesare Borgia, Lucrezia and father Rodrigo Borgia made Pope Alexander VI. A gaudy and sumptuous lifestyle masked a murderous culture at its core. Some like Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola fought and died for church reform.
