A psychotherapist helps a law student cope with schizophrenia in one of five interconnected tales dealing with mental illness.
This is 5 short stories directed by 5 different directors that all deal with mental illness. One character appears in 3 of the 5 stories. Most of the stories are very very depressing. Part 4 of the movie deals with a depressed stand up comic...I could not help but think about Robin Williams when I watched that part. Part 5 stars Jennifer Hudson and Ernie Hudson and had the most emotionally wallop for me. I thought parts 1 and 3 were ok.....and part 2 with Melissa Leo was the second best part of the movie. Final thought: An interesting movie....but not one I will ever revisit.
The movie submerges the viewer in the hectic universe of 5 people affected with different mental illnesses in an elegant and natural way, confronting the audience with the impact of their ongoing struggle.
Knowing that all those conditions combined determine the fiber and essence of more people than one can imagine, ones eyes are opened with this provocative slice of life.
honestly, i wasn't expecting to like this as much as i did. what i was expecting was just a run-of-the-mill netflix movie to put on in the background, but i instantly became interested in this within the first ten minutes. "call me crazy" really started off strong but as the third story came around, it got a little boring for me. but thankfully, it really picked up by the fourth. but jennifer hudson's performance in the last one was just so great. all hail j hudd!
if you're bored and have nothing netflix on to watch, i would recommend this
Film #29 of the March 2016 Scavenger Hunt
Task #9. A film exploring the theme of mental illness
Call Me Crazy is a collection of 5 short films by 5 female directors, each exploring different aspects of mental illness from perspectives that span race, gender, age, and class. This is a really cool idea - and despite its lifetime channel production values, it's still an experiment I can get behind. Not all shorts are equal, and in this collection they add up too overlong and after the first half, the film hits a wall and gets very serious and repeats a lot of the same ideas. As a film this doesn't really work, but I suppose if you don't have…
These five related tales explore the topic of Mental Illness with honesty and a deep respect. The topics include depression, anxiety/PTSD, schizophrenia, Bi-Polar disorder, and family members living with loved ones with a mental illness.
This five piece film is very educational and is not for the faint of heart. The acting is well done and at no point did I feel anything was cliche. It show these disorders as legitimate illnesses and not as something made up in the head.
This is worth the time and can prompt solid discussions with others.
it started great, went downhill from there, the connections made between shorts looked way to forced.
The unfortunate thing about films about mental illness is that it's impossible to make everyone familiar with the subject matter feel like they can relate. The experiences of mental illness are far too specific to each person. The major problem with this anthology is that each person afflicted with mental illness has what I would call the "best case scenario". All of them have supportive family members and enough money to get all of the help that they need. This is not my experience, and therefore I didn't feel represented.
The spiel that Lucy gives at the end about the magic of medication was really uncomfortable, as well. I actually laughed thinking, 'was this written by a pharmaceutical company?' Medication isn't every sick person's be-all and end-all, and neither is therapy.
Usually the only anthology films I watch are horror based. But this film was astounding. It proves you can get through your illness no matter what it is. That there is hope. That the dark times you endure don't have to consume you. It is also a beautiful representation of the illnesses it depicts. Most people get the disorders confused or just are plain ignorant about them. But this film shows what it is like to have one. Or at least from my side having depression. It is a truly beautiful and inspiring film. Anyone and everyone should see this film. Whether you have one of the illnesses depicted or know someone who does.
One important thing to remember is its not the person it's their illness.
Fantastic film.
Very sensitive topic explored thoroughly with the most unlikely yet effective cast of mostly female actors who were absolutely superb. One of my favorite actresses, Brittany Snow, inadvertently steals the spotlight as the schizophrenic law graduate whose story interweaves with some characters in this anthology. Produced by Jennifer Aniston, it is quite a painful and sometimes uncomfortable look into the lives of people who are sick and their affected families.
Like Jennifer Aniston's other Five film she produced about breast cancer, this one is five vignettes about mental illness that is a nice effort, but everyone lives in the suburbs and there is exactly one segment that has people of color. I'm sure this film series allows a lot of Middle America women to "see themselves," but it'd be nice if that "homeless lady in People's Park" alluded to was included.
O fillme é intenso... Falar sobre esse assunto é pesado, pois é um assunto sensível, porém o filme abordou de uma forma que eu gostei.

Scavenger Hunt #42 (19/30)
Task: 12. Any lifetime movie! (Had to first air on the network)
LUCY: yay, the heteros have found love and purpose despite their mental illness, how magical
GRACE: yikes
ALLISON: no
EDDIE: fucken me too right now, pal
MAGGIE: good!!!!!!! starring jennifer hudson, my wife, the love of my life,,,
also not to be negative but i'm the opposite of a fan of brittany snow's acting so i was not pleased whatsoever that she was in this so much as a core character who frames the whole anthology.
Ada Perempuan, sudah menikah.
Dia ngeseks sama Suaminya, tapi dia ngerasa gak cukup. Dia ngeseks juga sama beberapa cowo di luar sana. Ternyata dia sakit, ada kelainan gitu, dan Suaminya maafin Istrinya. Suaminya baik banget :’)
