Excellent for a "working woman" portfolio. It looks as though she's wearing a petticoat over her gown skirt, I wonder it it's supposed to be a type of apron.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo | Mannerist painter

The bizarre works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, especially his multiple images, were rediscovered in the early 20th century by Surrealist artists like Salvador Dali. Arcimboldo was born in Milan in 1527, the son of Biagio, a painter who did work for the office of the Fabbrica in the Duomo. Arcimboldo was commissioned to do stained glass window designs beginning in 1549, including the Stories of St. Catherine of Alexandria vitrage at the Duomo.

A sixteenth- to seventeenth-century Italian silk and linen border with Strozzi emblems; the falcon on a branch and three half-moons with flames were Filippo Strozzi's favourite emblems; Sprays of roses are tied together with banderoles bearing the motto "I wait and so does virtue". (Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Border with Strozzi emblems | Italian, Florence | The Metropolitan Museum of Art

This splendidly woven fabric would have been appropriate for decorating a room beneath a cornice or as a bed valance. Although this particular textile may have been woven as late as the seventeenth century, its design surely goes back to the fifteenth and incorporates Filippo Strozzi's favorite motifs of a falcon on a branch and three half-moons with flames

Antonio da Vendri - The Giusti Family of Verona [c.1520]

Antonio da Vendri - The Giusti Family of Verona [c.1520]

This work was originally the bottom part of an altarpiece, which was probably in the Church of Saint Maria in Stelle, Verona. The upper part apparently showed the Virgin and Child with saints, while another fragment in Verona shows Saints Sebastian and Roch, saints frequently invoked in times of plague. This group of six men and nine women has traditionally been identified as the Giusti family of Verona, although none of the family can be identified by comparison with other portraits…

Francesco del Cossa - Palazzo Schifanoia, salone dei mesi, Allegory of April, Triumph of Venus

Cossa, Francesco del (1436-1477) - 1476-84 Allegory of April, Triumph of Venus

In conjunction with Cosimo Tura, Cossa is now known for fresco decoration of the summer pleasure villa/palazzo known as the Palazzo Schifanoia, located just outside the city gates. Together, they painted a series of the elaborate allegories around the themes of zodiacal signs and months of the year. These were only partially restored in the 20th century, and there are three that are reasonably assigned to Cossa. The Allegory of April has a depiction of the trio of Graces, one of the earliest…

Medieval Europeans Didn’t Have Tupperware, They Had Pastry Coffins Vincenzo Campi painted the hectic activities of Medieval kitchens.A coffin, spelled coffyn in 12th-century English, referred to self-standing pastry made from flour, water, and sometimes fat. Like a sort of medieval Tupperware, coffins preserved the foods they contained and were rarely eaten.
