The years of 1294-1295 saw the great storm of the north sea which broke the harbours of Holland, Flanders and the eastern coast of Britain. The Norwegian reinforcements sent to Scotland sunk to the bottom of the sea.
It is almost prophetic for the clouds that are gathering for all of Eurasia.

The British Isles

In Great Britain the ongoing conflicts with Wales and Norway continued as king Richard II maintained control of the castles and the Welsh retreated into the hills. In Scotland meanwhile the king of Norway has started raiding the harbours of the Lord of Balliol. Finally fed up with Alexander III inaction his son William has wed a girl from the House of Stuart and has risen in rebellion with most of the lowlands loyalty to him, while the Comyns in the Highlands stay neutral William has himself crowned at Scone as William III and now lays siege to his father in Edinburgh promising him honourable exile in Crusade or in a monastery.
Ireland meanwhile stays an outsider in these conflicts despite vested interests in Wales and Ulster. Some wonder what goes on in the mind of the former Lord of Castamere.

France

In France meanwhile the king's prolonged absence, as well as the slow ebbing of the French Golden Age, gave birth to something, that had been relict of the past: Factionalism.
Where previously the king had been a unifying figure, even bringing a close to the Burgundian-Flemish feud. However with the greater and greater centralization of power in the hands of the dominant political faction, many were so confident in their power, that they saw freedom to push for greater influence within that faction.
The Queen as regent of France found support among the rulers of Anjou, Courtenay, Flanders, , Blois, Artois, Lorraine and of course her own family, Luxembourg, bringing in administrators mostly from those regions. These men were called 'Queensmen' or 'Flemish' in reference to the old faction under King Louis IX.
Also loyal to the crown and in some way represented, was the newly formed "Breton" faction headed by Duke John II ( @KingOfPenguins) and his brother-in-law the deposed regent Alphonse, Duke of Auvergne.
They are supported by the County of Poitiers and are somewhat sympathetic to the Count of Foix in his struggle to stay independent of Toulouse as well as the Prince of Orange in Burgundy. They are generally in favour of the royal family, but are resentful of their loss of influence and would very much prefer Prince Alphonse return to a leading role. Further they see royal power as relying on and thus having to reward, Capetian support and backing.
Two other informal factions exist.
Lead by the example of Richard II of England, the various Iberian monarchs of France keep themselves aloof of internal French matters, ruling their realms as extension of their own realms and staying neutral on any internal matters.
The last faction is that lead by the Count of Toulouse (@Pendragon ), a ramshackle alliance of those left out of the current alliance, be it the south French newmen or the old non Capetian families in central France, surrounded by a siege ring of royalists. They are for now not a great threat to the royal power, but it is noteable, that for the first time in decades a clear anti royal power blog seems to be forming.
This does not prevent the Queen from forming a functional and effective government, that more than capably makes up for any lack of talents her son has. The construction in Provence meanwhile continue well.

The greatest event for France however was the Crusade in Africa, which saw Louis X win a hard fought, but ultimate victory, when Algier fell to his allied Hafsids.
The war was at first a series of attacks and counter attacks out in the desert West of Tunis as neither Hafsids, nor the French had the full power in men to overcome the Marinids.
That changed when in March 1295 king Leo arrived with the survivors of Tripoli.
Stirred on with holy rage and the grief over the death of his mother, Leo proved the be the decisive factor as the Marinids were driven back, losing Algiers by the end of the year and sueing for peace.
With peace with the Marinids concluded now he and the Hafsids would only need to agree to new borders....

The HRE - Oh my Theodorico, where art though?

In the lands of Braunschweig the new election saw a quick move to action by Otto Welf, as his navy started patrolling the North Sea, often taking anchor at Helgoland, creating a bubble of stability in the storm ravished coast.
Welf meanwhile is coming along well enough, though his age of course creates some limits for development.
Lastly, the king of the Romans let his military muscles play, choosing a small target and easy target to gather his prestige.
Otto prepared for a longer campaign, but soon found the lands he invaded falter in their defence, unwilling to fight for this new Duke against the king himself. Bentheim fell to him quickly. When the year 1296 dawned Otto was marching on Holland, his Frisian vassals having taken control of all disputed territories.
This does not mean that the ongoing issues of the Empire have disappeared, as a third feud has flared up in Swabia between yet another set of small counts. This seems to be spreading as some two Cantons of the Eidgenossenschaft have mobilized against each other, though there have been little troop movements so far.

Italy

In Italy meanwhile after decades of war, finally it seems like something approaching a decisive battle has been fought as in mid 1294 Theodoric managed to defeat Frederick of Hohenstaufen in battle, forcing him to retreat to Sicily.
In northern Italy meanwhile the Habsburg, seeing the Premyslid retreat from Italy, saw no reason to continue fighting, just as Theodoric won his battle in Sicily and agreed to Ligurian terms of neutrality.
Liguria and Sicily have send terms, offering a fifteen year truce on the current borders. Frederic of Hohenstaufen has also announced the betrothal of his second daughter to the grandson of the Prince of Sardinia.
He would mull this proposal over as he returned both Naples and his Italian lands to some order in the breathing time he was given, before venturing to Rome to get the Holy Father's counsel, who was busy conducting the Ecumenical council.
The occured what would later be called "Die Kaiserschau" (The Emperor Exhibition), as in late 1285, Ottokar of Austria reappeared in Italy, aged and grim, a crusading army waiting for him in Trieste.
What could have been a great occurance, turned into a bit of a faux pas for all, as Ottokar asked in private to be crowned Emperor for what time remained to him on earth.
Alexander, while no enemy of Ottokar, indeed on of his great patrons, was distraught as he was a hardcore Imperialist at heart, already having pushed in the ongoing counsel to make clear that there was only one Roman Emperor, his ally Theodoric, in opposition to those in the papacy that wished to continue the tradition created by his precessor in crowning the House of Poitiers as Emperors of the East.
While this conversation had been private it soon however found itself in the murmurs of the city and many looked forward with great anticipation to the grand ceremony Alexander and Ottokar arranged. When it all came to a climax, Ottokar was blessed in almost all forms a king was, save for the oiling as Ottokar had left that ceremonial position as bridge between god and people and crowning with an actual crown, instead going for a coronet, as he was declared by the pope both "Romanorum patricius, consul, dux et senator" as well as "Rex Emeritus". The pope and with him large parts of Italy had made clear, who they considered to be the rightful ruler of the HRE: Theodoric.
Ottokar thus was forced to leave without an Imperial crown to Trieste where a Crusading army and quite sizeable was assembling. Sadly, he would never see the Holy Land as he suffered a stroke soon after.
This threw the Crusade into chaos.
The Ludowingers were the first to leave, never having been friends of Ottokar, instead preferring to leave for Tunis, where they would arrive too late to parttake in any fighting. With their abandonment of Ottokar adding to their treacherous reputation, many Crusaders ask why they should be given any lands due to lack of any parttaking in fighting.
Next were the ramshackle Holy Warriors Ottokar had gathered from all over Europe, as they had heard the tales of Tripoli's fall by now and thus saw any fighting as senseless, also departing for Tunis.
Vladislaus, Ottokar's nephew, having a corpse to return home for burial, decided to return home, stopping only in the lavish Austrian court to return Ottokar to his son, who by now was ruling quite efficiently over the Premyslid lands (though his attempts to find Muslims in Hungary has drawn some laughter). Taking what remained of his wife and children Vladislaus then returned to Prague, renewing his oaths to his niece before retiring to Görlitz, hopefully he prayed until the end of his days.
Though, "What remained of his wife and children", were fewer than one would think as his son Mstislav has remained in Italy, leading the remaining force of about 2000 warriors out into the Adriatic. Though as the Byzantines refused them to anchor in their lands and as winter storms were due to start soon, they eventually turned back and sailed to Malta, where they met up with the Danes, who, much to the scorn of their former allies chagrin, had abandoned the French crusade. The Venetians meanwhile have started complaining that far fewer crusaders have come than promised and that many ships have gone unused and thus unpaid. Still with all the riches they got from Tripoli's evacuation, they should not complain. They also managed to seize a number of Marinid islands in the Mediterranean, increasing their control of the sea's centre.
In Central Italy meanwhile Ravenna has started exporting papal grain to Naples, making quite a nice profit. The boy Stefano is fascinated by the ways in which grain and silver can become each other.
Iberia

Afonso III of Portugal passes at the age of 57. He is followed by his son and heir Ferdinand I/III, king of Galicia and Leon.
In Castille meanwhile a decisive victory is won over the Marinids, leading to a peace that sees Castille advancing just to the edge of the Mountains that guard Granada.

The North

In the North, civil war brews in Norway, as the royal family's continued absence sees many ask themselves, why they should accept a Swedish upstart as their overlord. However, the question soon passes to who they could use as potential king, as literally the entire royal family has died multiple times, leaving few clear alternatives around to rally the people.
In Denmark meanwhile another death occured as Gerhard of Schauenburg, far too old for such adventures died in Bavaria, en route to the crusade.
Meanwhile a small recovery took place in the Baltic regions of Denmark as royal investments in trade and craftsman ship lead to fast rebuilding in many urban areas. Still, the west coast is devastated by the Great Storm and with the king off on an expensive crusade, nobody is really sure who is in charge of the country and the peacemaking process.
In Poland another bad harvest is had as the hunger gets worse.
In Sweden meanwhile, as opposed to Henryk, action was taken, as Emil Svenske lead the people through these hard times. While the problems of the bad harvests continued, there was few labour to go around for other projects, such as military or other expansion. Though with Norwegian, Danish and British trade being hard hit, there may be avenues opening up to expand the Swedish trade network.
Lastly in Russia more expansion was made as slowly the trickle of Orthodox conversion in and around Riga turned into a torrent as the Rigan navy expanded her reach over the Baltic sea.
Controversially they have taken control of a pirate nest in northern Gotland and have set up a guard tower there, outraging the local Swedish nobility. The Rigan administrators meanwhile are pointing to the alliance between their overlord and the Swedish king as justification for the construction.

The East

In the realms of the Jochid Sultans peace reigns on as the Sultan stays for some time in Kiev, before, though gathering a grand host. If this is simply in preparation for a tour of his vassals or a great campaign nobody knows.
In Hungary meanwhile a picture of the post conquest order emerges.
The Sultan has assumed the title of king of Hungary, but has effectively released the various lords of the realm into independent tributary status.
The greatest of these new realms is the ban of the Cumans, now named Ali, following his conversion to Islam. He holds not only the cities of Buda and Pest, but also has been named by the Sultan as Count Palatine of Hungary, in theory giving him some primacy over the other petty realms.
Next is the Duke of Esztergom, Peter Köszegi, second son of King Henry, a jealous rat of a man, weak in strength, but vast in intellect. He has taken the former royal city of Esztergom as his capital along with the lands of the Slovaks rich in people and resources. He has also taken as wife the daughter of the Rurikid Princes to Poland's east, clearly aiming against the instable realm of Henryk III. Maybe it is a blessing to the other Hungarians that he seeks glory outside of the realm and not inside it.
Thirdly there is Ugrin Csak, the Ban of Syrmia. Ruling a land aside from the central realm has proven beneficial to the former hardcore loyalist of the Arpad dynasty as they escaped any great destruction in the many wars that shook the kingdom over the years. At times his family had aided even the invasion of Maurice of Egypt, so great was their dedication to the Arpad blood. Now they are left without a leader and more and more need to realize that they may have to become their own fate's smith.
Fourth in power is Ladislaus Kan, Ban of Transylvania. Having had his lands attacked and taken away again and again over his family's history has made Ladislaus a quite content fellow, keeping to his own lands and generally trying to keep good relations with all his neighbours.
Second to last is James Borsa, Ban of Transtisia. A proud and arrogant lord, he was once one of the richest oligarchs in the post Arpad period, but had his estates much reduced, when he found himself in the direct marching path of the Jochid army. Now he is a bitter and jealous man, eyeing all his neigbhours with a fuming mouth.
And last there is Henry Köszegi, the youngest son of the former king, the Ban of Upper Hungary, a boring fellow, strong and courtious, pious and faithful. Friendly to all, even peasants. He is the laughing stock of Hungary.
In Bulgaria meanwhile the establishment of the Teutonic Order went on as slowly a semblance of stability was achieved in the newly taken realms. Bandits and hunger still plagued the land, but it seemed like a bottom point had been reached and now the new rise was starting.
In the kingdom of Armenia these years saw the final victory of Hethum II, king of Armenia, over his family, as his mercenaries of the band of the Hawk, won a finaly victory near Sis after luring his brother near the capital. By the end of the year, all of Hethum's fifteen children were dead along with their descendants, his rule absolute. Yet, not all was well. As even as Hethum's rule was without dispute, his son Constantine had died fighting as a squire during the civil war, and now, his only surviving nephew and adopted son Hethum was found stabbed to death from a gigantic sword wound, leaving Hethum with only his daughter Isabella, aged thirteen as his heiress. The girl is now the most desirable bachelorette in the eastern mediterranean.

In the Ilkhanate meanwhile the civil war raged on, as none of the two warriors could force a decisive battle. More and more central authority waned as local officials of various religions took control of their respective provinces, creating a tapestry of confessions across the realm.
This however was the decisive turning point for the Ilkhanate. While eventually a victor would be found, the new realm he would rule would never again have the same cohesion and extend which was lost in those years.
One of the first outsiders to take advantage of this descend in Mongol power, were ironically Mongol vassals, as king David VIII declared war on the Mongols. Interestingly this was not a Holy War, as despite David's Orthodox faith, he was a vassal to the Muslim Jochids. Instead David simply saw this as a conquest for conquest's sake. And while he was no friend of Muslims and indeed privately quite often frightened his daughter-in-law Isabella of Jerusalem with his temper, he was a man shrewd enough to utilize opportunities that arose from his vassalage, as he used his forced tolerance of Islam to reach out to a forgotten people of the Middle East: The Kurds.
Long gone were the times when the Saladin, the greatest Kurd of all time, ruled a realm that knew no rival in the Muslim world. Since then the Kurds had been reduced to become vassals of other greater lords, be they Ottomans, the Purple Horde, the Mamluks or the Ilkhans. While some of them tolerated and supported them, others did not and few saw them as anything more than an ally of convenience, never allowing a true Kurdish power to emerge. Now however David offered them just that: He was making war on the Ilkhan vassals, the Shirvanshahs of Baku.
Bawa Ardalan, a small petty lord along the border of the Purple Horde and Ilkhanate, swearing his allegiance this way and that depending on the day, always in a precarious position standing just edges from destruction. To him, the offer to lead a conquest of a proper title in a proper kingdom was a heaven sent, freeing him from his life as semi-mercenary.
Just like him though many other Kurds and soon a virtual migration wave emerged. While later Kurdish nationalists would exhagger to initial wave of settlers and conquerors (more would migrate over the coming decades and centuries), this still can be the seen the initation of a great migration of the Kurdish peoples to the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Still the people of the time were not aware of any such role they played. Indeed they had far lower ambitions, seeking secure positions and steady incomes in richer lands.
Indeed their position towards the great city they besieged as the year 1286 dawned can be best summarized by the words Bawa Ardalan with a sly grin remarked as he overlooked the city walls. "It's not I like you or anything Baku. I just want your gold and trade."

The End of an Era

The Fall of Tripoli

When in February 1295 Tripoli fell, it was only months from being two hundred years, since the First Crusade had started. At was also the First Time since the Latins lost any foothold they held in the Holy Land since that time.
Starting out with the the County of Edessa, the Principality of Antioch and the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Latins had for almost two centuries tried and failed to impose their stamp on the Levant. Following the creation of the County of Tripoli, the ancestor to the Kingdom of Syria and later the Kingdom of Egypt following the Fourth Crusade, it seemed for a time, if it would only take one final push to take Mecca. Yet, that was the high watermark, as since then slowly the Latin power in the Holy Land ebbed away as the Muslim natives found their cohesion and centralized again under the leadership of the Mamluk Sultans who over fifty decades slowly pushed the Crusaders out. Bohemond, who would rule over what later Historians dubbed the "Latin Empire", was the last Crusading ruler to attempt to stop the tides of time by forcing a union of all the middling powers of the region to not be swallowed by either Rome or Egypt.
Yet, he found that this only worked to weaken what power he could have possessed and soon found himself first a Mamluk vassal and then dead.
His son Leo would for a few years try to find his foothold again, but found himself finally swept away, when the Mamluks found him to be of no more use to them.
Tripoli found itself under siege.
Yet, through all this Leo did not give up hope, through proxies negotiating with the outside world.
In the halls of Tripoli he finally made a decision.
The next day began the destruction of Tripoli.
Leo had the city torn down stone by stone to create trenches and defenses, he had all valuables of any kind collected and stored in the castle as all citizens unable to aid in the defense were expelled into no mans land. The men of the city were however not eager to see their women and children abandoned to the Mamluks. Revolts broke out that were brutally crushed. Weeks and months ticked by as the Crusaders held on under harsh rations. Once the general defense had been completed all workers not willing to fight were eventually allowed to leave, as Leo realized that rations would otherwise not keep his soldiers in battle ready form.
Slowly the Mamluks tightened the noose as battlement after battlement fell to them, as the Crusaders waited on. Then finally on February 3rd 1295 the Venetian fleet arrived, evacuating all, but one of the survivors of Tripoli. For when her bodyguard came to escort her to the ships, they found that Queen Dowager Theodora was dead from a self inflicted snake bite, deciding to rather die in the Holy Land, than flee in dishonour.

What then was the effect of the Crusades?
Wikipedia names the main impacst of the Crusades as the reopening of Mediterranean trade, as the Venician and Genoan cities continued trading relations established under crusading lordship into the Mamluk times and even if the Venitian assistance of the evacuation of Tripoli would tarnish relations for some time, the tolerant and industrious character of Doge Marco Polo soon would turn this around over the coming years, thus further strengthening the ties between east and west, laying the groundwork for the coming Renaissance.
The next impact was the initial consolidation and later regionalization of the church as first the crusades gave great power to the pope and the church leading to the creation of an effective bureaucratic apparatus across christendom and then later, with controvertial steps, like Nicholas crowning Bohemond and his current succesor not crowning Ottokar, or the relations between the former Danielson and France, encouraging the different states of Europe to more and more seize control or at the very least restrain their churches.
Lastly there is the reinforcement of the link between militarism and the right to rule, reflected in venerated figures like Barbarossa, Arthur Pendragon or Louis X of France, inspiring songs and literature across the Christian world.
What further impact was there?
Outside of the Latin core it for one spawned the kingdom of Africa, which while also in theory a crusader kingdom, was much more a semi-colonial state at the edge of the Latin core, much more able to possibly become a long lasting state than the crusading states it still claimed to represent.
The Byzantine Empire meanwhile was reconfirmed by the Crusades as a deadly enemy of the Latin World, the invasion of Greece by Latin Crusaders making the feeling mutual for the centuries to come. Further the baptism of Ottoman and the greater contrast needed from the Latin and Armenian heretics created an age that apart from any political events still was dominated by religious reawakening, possibly paving the way for things to come.
The Mamluks meanwhile arose from the conflict once and for all establishing itself as the dominant Muslim power outside of Russia, dwarfing the Hafsids, Mamluks, Ilkhans and the petty Arab states in prestige and power, speaking on equal terms with the Emperor in Rome.
A new Great Power has arisen.

The Middle Eastern Global Golden Age is Over.
The Kingdom of Africa gains National Trait: "Seeds of the Next Age". Until the start of the Renaissance the kingdom (and succesor realms depending) gains +3 on great person rolls.
The Empire of Rome gains National Quest: "Union of the Churches". Each turn for fifty years Rome may Roll a d20. If its a 15+ then a Religious Period Defining Person arises.
The Mamluk Sultan is now a Great Leader.

IT IS NOW 1296

Splendid work my friend. It was an honor to fight alongside so worthy an ally. Now I'll just remind you of our prior agreement. You just allow me to retain the gains indicated on this map and I'll return home.

While we applaud your sentiment and assure you it is answered, we cannot bring ourselves to shed a tear over the traitor Ottokar's death and neither aid you in your war, after the unlawful and unwarranted slaughter of your Varangian brethren and the near abduction of Empress Irene and Anna Porphyrogenneta. May God show you the righteous path.

---
Still shunned by his father in Kraków, Kazimierz has settled into his role as the Duke of Wrocław, now focusing upon his duties as Duke while continuing to quietly seethe at the King. Although much can be said of his activities throughout the wider Duchy where Kazimierz has worked to maintain order in his own strict and unyielding fashion, his activities in Wrocław itself are of greater significance with the Crown Prince focusing especially upon his seat. A diverse city that included everyone from Poles to Jews to Walloons, Kazimierz would spend a great deal of time dealing with unrest in the city, notably cracking down on violence towards the Jewish population, as well as on administrative matters, matters which would relate to his granting of the staple right to Wrocław though it is questionable whether it would hold if challenged by the King.

Where do I have to go to reafirm my vassalage for the imperial territories I inherited from my father?
Normally you must travel to the Emperor and basically swear fealty and vassalage to him. However with him in Italy, this is rather difficult.

Then perhaps you could write the Emperor and simply ask for him to declare from Italy that you are the rightful heir of your father, which you are by birth of course, and that your imperial territories are to still be considered vassals of the Emperor.

ARCHIREGNUM HUNGARICUM
1296-1297

The Most Apostolic King Wenceslaus, the First of His Name, rules as King of Hungary, Croatia, Dalmatia, Slavonia and Rama, as Duke of Austria, Styria, Carinthia, Merania and Friuli, as Margrave of Istria and Carniola, as Count of the Tyrol and Gorizia, and as one of the seven Prince-Electors of the Holy Roman Empire.

He is also Arch-Cupbearer of the Holy Roman Empire and Regent of Geneva and Brandenburg.

His capitals are Vienna (Wien) and Pressburg (Bratislava), with the cities of Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Trieste, Székesfehérvár, Pécs and Zagreb all serving as important secondary centres of royal authority and rule.

Religiously the King keeps faith with Rome, albeit only nominally, privately seeing the present Pope as an Anti-Christ who has repeatedly gone back on his word and betrayed the interests of God's people.

Politically the King inherits his father's old network of allies and collaborators, primarily the Elector-Palatine of the Rhine and the Wittelsbach family.
As of yet, the new King has no feuds or dramas of his own, and does not share his father's preoccupation with trying to keep the Holy Roman Empire united and safe, or keep Theoderic on the throne.

Born in 1257 A.D., the King is the son and successor of the recently deceased CAESAR OTTOKAR AUGUSTUS (born 1230, died 1296), Holy Roman Emperor and King of the Romans, Consul, Duke, Senator and Patrician of Rome. He is forty years old and in the prime of his life. By blood Czech, Hungarian, German and Greek in equal measure, Caesar Ottokar fathered his son and heir on his German queen Agnes, who herself had a Byzantine princess for grandmother and Hungarian blood to boot. The new King is thus born of a long line of Kings and Queens, descending from the Emperors of West and East.

His immediate family and direct descendants, as traced from his father Caesar Ottokar:
  • His first wife, {Queen Agnes of Babenberg}, deceased 1288, Duchess of Austria, a Premyslid ward since early childhood, when she was also betrothed to Ottokar. Much of their married life was spent asserting and protecting her rights as heiress of the extinct Babenberg and Andechs dynasties, which laid the groundwork for many of her husband's later successes, even after her death.
    • Their eldest son, KING WENCESLAUS, called Václav, born 1257, betrothed to Princess Sophia of Bohemia, a cousin,
      • His short-lived bastard son, {Jobst of Wien}, died before his first birthday,
      • His natural daughter, CONSTANTIA, born 1291, hidden from the world,
      • His natural daughter, CLEMENTIA, born 1293, hidden from the world,
    • Their eldest daughter, QUEEN CUNIGUNDA, called Kinga, born 1258, married Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, a cousin, called 'the Usurper' by some, 'the God-sent' by others, now King of Sicily,
      • Their eldest daughter, CUNIGUNDA of HOHENSTAUFEN, born 1275, married Matthias of Lorraine, with issue,
      • Their second daughter, FREDERICA of HOHENSTAUFEN, born 1283,
      • Their eldest son, CONRAD of HOHENSTAUFEN, born 1292, the long-awaited heir,
      • Their third daughter, AGNES of HOHENSTAUFEN, born 1293,
      • Their fourth daughter, AGATHA of HOHENSTAUFEN, born 1294,
    • Their second daughter, {Queen Agnes Premyslovna}, born 1262, deceased in childbirth 1288, married {Henry of Wittelsbach}, King of the Romans, Duke of Tuscany and Lower Bavaria,
      • Their eldest surviving son, LOUIS III of WITTELSBACH, born 1283, Duke of Lower Bavaria,
      • Their second surviving son, OTTO of WITTELSBACH, born 1283, twin to the former, Duke of Neumark,
      • Their only surviving daughter, AGNES of WITTLESBACH, born 1288, betrothed by her grandfather to Prince Alexander of Denmark,
    • Their third daughter, {Princess Constance Premyslovna}, born 1276, deceased in childbirth 1291, married Nicholas Kószegi (whose father the Palatine Henry Kószegi had usurped the Hungarian crown), in accordance with the Treaty of the Field 1285, bringing peace, her Arpad blood and the county of Esztergom as dowry;
      • Their eldest son, {Ivan Kószegi}, born & died 1290,
      • Their second son, SOLOMON KÓSZEGI, born 1291, orphan of mother,
    • Their second son, ARCHDUKE ANDREW, born 1277, betrothed to Margravine Elisabeth of Brandenburg, a cousin,
    • Their third and final son, {Prince Árpad}, born & died 1280, named for the defunct ruling line of the Magyars, the Arpad dynasty, from which the Premyslids descend multiple times and derive their claim on the Holy Crown of St Stephen.
  • His sometime concubine, SELVAGGIA VISCONTI, a noble widow of Lombardy, also called Teobalda, who took the veil after their fornications came to an end, nevertheless well treated and highly regarded as mother of Caesar's sons and seal of the Premyslid alliance with the Viscontis, promoted by them to the rule of Milan and much of Lombardy.
    • Their eldest son, CONRADIN, born 1280, legitimated by his father's royal decree, betrothed to Bertha of Geneva, his first cousin.
    • Their second son, FREDERICK, born 1281, legitimated by his father's royal decree, betrothed to Matilda of Hapsburg, daughter of the Elector-Palatine Rudolf of the Rhine, a cousin and ally of his father.
  • His second wife, {Helena of Sweden}, born 1263, deceased 1294, daughter of King Holmger of Sweden and Matilda of Brandenburg, also called Helena of Spandau.
    • Their first son, {Prince George}, born & died 1290,
    • Their second son, ARCHDUKE PHILIP, born 1291, named for the Swedish King his ancestor,
    • Their third son, ARCHDUKE CANUTE, born 1292, named for his Swedish King his ancestor,
    • Their first daughter, PRINCESS BEATRICE, born 1292, named for her aunt of that same name, Beatrice of Bohemia, who was in turn Holy Roman Empress and Queen of Poland,
    • Their fourth son, ARCHDUKE LADISLAUS, born 1294.
  • His third and final wife, ESCHIVA OF IBELIN, Queen of Jerusalem, widow of the pretender Hugh Aleman, now a claimant in exile.
    • Their only child, {Archduke Alexander}, born 1295, died young.
  • His brother's widow, Countess Maria of Geneva, a Burgundian heiress, now a tired old crone living out her days in Vienna.
    • Her first daughter, {Princess Ursula}, born & died 1278.
    • Her first son, Prince Henry, born 1279, destined for the Church. A student of Cologne.
    • Her second son, {Prince Philip}, born & died 1280.
    • Her second daughter, Princess Bertha, born 1283, betrothed to her cousin Conradin.

Other notable wards of the Premyslid court include the deposed King Henry Kószegi of Hungary, his eldest son and would-be heir Nicholas Kószegi (Caesar Ottokar's former son-in-law, called 'the Cuman' for his mother's people), the imprisoned Canute of Spandau (Caesar Ottokar's defeated brother-in-law), his mother Matilda of Brandenburg (Caesar Ottokar's mother-in-law) and their cousin Otto of Neumark, with his wife and adolescent children Otto, John and Elisabeth.

First and foremost, allow me to congratulate you both on your recent successes. No doubt neither Holland nor Naples shall be able to challenge or withstand your respective authorities.

Secondly, I write to inform you formally of the passing of my father, Caesar Ottokar Augustus, Holy Roman Emperor, King of the Romans, King of Bohemia and Hungary, etc. The rule of the Empire is now yours alone, and he is gone to God. Know that I blame Pope Alexander completely for my father's sudden death, on account of his blatant refusal to honour the agreement made between the three of you and once again try and position the Papacy as the arbiter and ultimate decider of Imperial affairs. He withheld that single honour my father worked his whole life towards and hastened him to the grave. This is an offence not just to my father's memory and legacy, but to yourselves, who agreed on the triumvirate with him with all its terms, including my father having the title and honour of Holy Roman Emperor but renouncing authority over to the new King of the Romans Otto. This is an outrage and one that pains me deeply, so I am curious to hear what your thoughts are on the matter.

How nany do you have?
Oh, and should God decide to take me while on this Crusade, do not worry, my son Prince Valdemar Frodi will take comand.
He led tne naval contigent ably for years and was in Tunis.
Is the marriage between him and Bertha of Geneva still on?

Your French Majesty,
We of the North hope muchly that you decide to join the Expedition to the Holy Land. While the Conquest of Tunis and your selfless ceding of said territory proves your earnestness, the most appropriate target of a crusade is the Levant.
We hope to see you and the French there.

Your father's death was a tragic one, but sadly expected. Time was creeping up on him like it did my father and the Reaper claimed his due. I pray Ottokar rests in heaven now. As for the Pope, sadly King Wenceslaus, I do not question the decisions of the heir of St. Peter. But remember, all Popes visit God in the arms of Gabriel, and Pope Alexander is no different. Be patient my young friend, I have seen within my years of rule Pope come and go. If Theodoric agrees we might be able to have Ottokar's rightful titles given post-mortum. For now, may God guide you well.

I HAVE enquired into the Eirenne affair as well as I could and to me it seemed less like a premediated crime and more like a series of lamentable misunderstandings. The Varagians did their duty, if erring on the side of being zealous, as was to be expected from true descendents of the Norse , the Bohemians tried to defend the members of the House of Premysl, as was THEIR duty .... and the outcome was death and disaster.

But , with all respect due to one of the two rightful Augustii , how does that preclude aiding me and Prince Michael in our war, if only covertly? Ottokar, whom I will not denigrate posthumously, because to me he always was a friend and ally, is dead.
I am alive and willing to swear on St. Michael Archangel that I mean my proposition in earnest. So would my son, Prince Valdemar Frodi, who hasa even greater respect for Rhomanaia. And since it looks my contingent is by far the biggest, our words and opinions will have to be respected....

So, look at this as an alliance with DENMARK and Sweden, not as a reward for Ottokar....

Herzogtum Braunschweig-Lüneburg - 1296

Name:
Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg
Current Ruler: Otto II, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg
Expected Heir: Otto Welf
Type of Government: Feudal Monarchy
Capital: Braunschweig

Family Tree:
  • [Otto II (b.1223, d.1288), Duke of Lüneburg] m.Ann Mary Askania (b.1230), sister of the former Duke of Saxony
    • Otto III (b.1248), married Elisabeth of Brandenburg (b. 1251)

    • Anne (b.1265), formerly married to [Duke Hermann of Thuringia (b. 1225, d. 1287)], currently married to Henry IV Ascania, Lord of Altmark (b.1273)
Economic Status:
-Stable

Insert Major Actions here @JBO:

  • Education of Welf Welf - As he ages, slowly introduce him to military books as he shows great promise in this field despite his age.
  • Bentheim Integration - Start the Integration of Bentheim into the Duchy.
  • Braunschweig Smiths - Otto Welf, seeing the value of smiths, seeks to ensure his capital city slowly becomes a center of steel production into swords.

Internal Events:
Adding to the spat between the counts of Zollern and Tübingen means Otto needs to deal with this.

Type of Government: Feudal Monarchy (under the Theocratic Elective Monarchy of the Papal States)
Capital: Ravenna

  • Cardinal Giacomo Colonna (b.1249) The brother of lord Giovanni and Cardinal. Member of the Roman Faction in the Papacy.
Economic Status:
-Impressive

Insert Major Actions here @JBO:

  • Education of children: Stefan is to learn from the merchants of Ravenna more about trade and Vittoria is to learn about normal courtly things women do in this time period.
  • Ravenna, Trading Outpost: While Giovanni is off in Rome itself to control the family from their, his ambitious son, Stefano the Elder seeks to turn Ravenna to powerful place of trade. Thus he hopes to continue the exporting of Papal Grain to other interested buyers (as long as they are Christian of course and not the Teutonic Knights), and to perhaps open a bank in Ravenna also.

Internal Events:
In Central Italy meanwhile Ravenna has started exporting papal grain to Naples, making quite a nice profit. The boy Stefano is fascinated by the ways in which grain and silver can become each other.
