Sophie Amalie von Braunschweig-Calenberg was born 24 March 1628 in Herzberg am Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany to Georg von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1582-1641) and Anna Eleonore von Hessen-Darmstadt (1601-1659) and died 20 February 1685 in Copenhagen, Denmark of unspecified causes. She married Frederik III of Denmark (1609-1670) 1 October 1643 at Schloß Glücksburg in Glücksburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
