The rooms are small, the beds are uncomfortable, the linens are questionable, and the bathrooms are gross looking. Ceiling is full of leak marks, bathtub is full of rust. It looks somewhat clean, but it’s just in need of basic maintenance. I stay there every time I visit as sadly all other hotels in town are in much worse shape. San Juan needs a proper hotel! I’d pay twice the price for something nicer.
Most importantly, the staff is outstanding and kind. That being said, everything most of the reviewers say is accurate. Is it loud? Yep. Are there some bugs? Yep. Is it outdated? Absolutely. However, it very much fits into the culture and expectation of the town. I was there to work, so when I got back to the hotel i was tired and fell asleep despite the noise. The air conditioners work and the shower has hot water. Also, it is priced appropriately. There are very few other options in San Juan de la Maguana. This is a solid choice if your expectations are appropriately set going in.
If you are looking for place to rest after a day of work or travel, DO NOT book this hotel. The hotel has an open air disco in front of the property that plays EXTREMELY LOUD music until very late hours (2:00 am or 3:00 am). They also have a Kareoke that also goes on until the same hours.
This was the best hotel in SJM. It was impossible to sleep with the outside noise. The parties with excessive noise until well into 4 am made it impossible to rest. The service was terrible and there were mice in the hallway.
The hotel is located in a great part of town and is easy to reach. However, the rooms are very outdated, the bathrooms moldy and rusted, internet service is noneexistent depending on the room you are in and the custumer service is horrible. We arrived after 4 p.m and were given a room that had not been made. The receptionist gave attitude and was very rude. When we asked for a clean room she said that all rooms had been previously booked. I reminded her that my dirty room was one of those pre-booked rooms. She gave us another room and that one was had not been cleaned either. She told us we had to sit down and wait for it to be cleaned. 10 minutes later we are shown to the room and I suspect the sheets and comforter were not changed. At this point I called other hotels but everything else was booked. There were spiderwebbs on the ceiling, hair on the floor and no phone in the room. Worst of all, was the receptionists attitude. The way she spoke to us, like we were a bother for asking for clean rooms was unacceptable. She could not be bothered to deal with us and was on the phone (personal phone) most of the time she was dealing with us. This is a hotel with history, in a great part of town and that charges more than most hotels in the area. I EXPECT MORE. The best part of the hotel is the restaurant and the food.…
