Some may find the language reflects today,
Others will say the author has gone astray,
I found both to be true to some extent,
Probably best not to read it during lent!

Given the title, one may reasonably have hoped that this book would have offered some solace and consolation. Instead, I found myself feeling disappointed that a decent concept was poorly executed. Half the pages are empty. There's almost nothing by way of introduction or context. Some of the selections are good but many are a bit predictable. Overall, the book feels sparse and a let-down.

I've since discovered the Neil Astley anthologies (set of 3: "Staying Alive"/"Being Alive"/"Being Human") which are 100 times better so I recommend those instead.

Quiet a lot of empty pages where poems should be, poems were great, some of which were old classics, If I can read it in a couple of hours then it’s low on content.

A good range of poems are present in this book, and I enjoyed leafing through. I will say however, like other reviewers... there is quite a lot of blank space. If this were taken up, the book would probably only be half as long. Although it took no more than an hour to read, it is a nice "taster" of poets!

My fault really, I should have read the contents but I was bedazzled by the cool cover. If you are not well read in poetry then this is a great poetry book for you, if you are well versed like myself it is not for you as you will already know ALL of the poems
