Mar 09, 2014Stupid idea for a story, but fun in an idiotic way. I'm embarrassed to say it, but I really liked it -- for a mindless action thriller.Christian C Super Reviewer

Oct 26, 2012Horrendously awful doesn't even begin to describe how terrible a film Van Helsing is. The way in which Stephen Sommers bastardizes the classic Universal Monsters is appalling. And the acting is beyond bad, but not as atrocious as the special effects. Van Helsing is an abomination upon film that defiles everything in it.Dann M Super Reviewer

Jun 24, 2012Van Helsing is such a mess of a film that I don't even know where to start. Stephen Sommers has created a film that almost entirely focuses on the visual instead of anything else. The film is trying to be entertaining, and I will give it that. Its harmless action that is trying to do nothing but keep us excited. But the story should not suffer in the process. I didn't care what happened in the movie and they take a promisable premise and ruin it with excessive visuals, boring acting, and many cliches. Hugh Jackman is playing himself, he does not change anything up, he is just playing the role he plays in every movie. Kate Beckinsale bores us with her overacting and just trying to be so memorable, but she ends up being forgettable. Like I said, the visuals are fun and I enjoyed some of the action scenes, but they start to use it so much try so hard to show it off that it just becomes a headache. This could've been a great film if they had focused on a good story and characters with as much focus they put into the mindless action.Bradley W Super Reviewer

Jun 02, 2012This action horror film directed by Stephen Sommers has more negative reviews that I could stand (quietly)! I watched it originally and I remember thinking to myself that these vampires are gorgeous... and someone wishes that soon becomes one... . For the female audience Hugh Jackman as vigilante monster hunter (and monster) Gabriel Van Helsing should do it, and Kate Beckinsale was the bonus for the male audience. Who say that sex doesn't sell - there it is, sold it to me. This film is a real homage and tribute to the Universal Horror Monster films from the 1930s and '40s of which director Stephen Sommers is a fan. And, if you ask me, he did a nice job. The name of the movie and the main character was inspired by Abraham Van Helsing from Irish author Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. But here you can find a number of monsters next to Count Dracula: the Frankenstein's monster and werewolves, beautiful vampire guardian Aleera and other creatures - in a way similar to the multi-monster movies that Universal produced in the 1940s, such as Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man and House of Dracula. Despite the negative critics reviews, remember one thing: this movie was a hit at the box office, grossing over $300 million worldwide against a budget of $160 million! It was a fast paced, beautifully made, silly, spectacular and after all fun! By the way, a month ago Universal Pictures announced that they're rebooting the film with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as a two year deal to produce a modern reimagining and Tom Cruise to star as the title character and also produce the film.Panta O Super Reviewer
