Mead boys soccer standout Terach Dobbs voted WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Mead's Terach Dobbs for being voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week for May 6-May 11!

The fifth-seeded Panthers did not open the Class 3A bi-district tournament as the favorites, but rolled through three higher seeds -No. 4 Southridge, No. 1 Ridgeline and No. 2 Hermiston - to claim the crown. In the championship match against Hermiston, Dobbs tallied a pair of goals, including the game winner right before halftime, in a 4-1 victory at Kennison Field.

Dobbs received 52.7% of the vote, beating out Hazen track standout Kenyon Andrews, who finished second with 24.8%.

WASHINGTON NOMINEES

Kenyon Andrews, Hazen boys track and field: Sophomore blistered the field at the in the 300-meter hurdles by winning in a state-best 37.16 seconds at the 3A/2A KingCo championships. His mark leads Washington by near one second.

Miles Chandler, West Seattle baseball: WSU signee led Wildcats to second 3A Metro title in three season, giving up one unearned run over six innings, striking out nine batters in 7-1 win over Ballard in championship game.

Garrett Chavis, Enumclaw baseball: Cranked two doubles and drove in a game-high three runs as Hornets toppled North Kitsap, 9-6, for Class 2A district title.

Brandon Garcia, East Valley of Yakima boys soccer: Has become Red Devils' go-to scorer, and he delivered a late goal - No. 20 on the season - in a 2-0 victory over Othello that not only clinched third consecutive 2A CWAC District title, but school's first undefeated run through league play.

JP Guzman, Columbia River boys soccer: Recorded a hat trick for Rapids, which won their third consecutive Class 2A district title with 7-1 win over R.A. Long. Also had two goals in district semifinal win over Tumwater.

Aaron Leon, Eastmont boys soccer: Sophomore forward scored a career-high six goals in a 9-1 win over Moses Lake, then tallied the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Wenatchee.

Alexa Matora, Lake Washington girls track and field: Not since 2019 had a Washington girl 800-meter runner broken the 2:10 barrier - until Saturday when this junior went a lifetime-best 2:09.29 to win the event at the 3A/2A KingCo championships.

Madeline Pewitt, Everett softball: Catcher had a game she will never forget by driving in a career-high 11 runs, triggered by three home runs, in team's 3A Wesco victory over Lynnwood.

Owen Powell, Mercer Island boys track and field: State leader already in 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs added another race to his list - the 800. The junior won that race at the 3A/2A KingCo championships with a personal-best 1:51.92, also a personal best.
