ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Brighton Volunteer Ambulance celebrated the 50th National EMS Week with an open house on Sunday.

Ambulance volunteers set up informational boards and had CPR mannequins out to teach attendees about the work that they do and what to expect when they’re in an ambulance.

Dennis Mietz, the president of Brighton Volunteer Ambulance said, “Especially for the younger families, children get a chance to get exposed to this and hopefully their first time isn’t when they need to ride the ambulance for a tragic reason. They can see the ambulance, they feel a little less tense about it. And also a lot of people are aware of all the other services. Everybody knows we take care of emergencies but we have a loan closet, we have all kinds of other services, CPR classes, you know all kinds of things.”

The open house was concluded with a proclamation from Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle to celebrate EMS Week. Local Politicians were also in attendance including Senator Cooney, Assemblywoman Clark, Congressman Morelli, and Monroe County Legislators.
