Bloody Slutty & Pathetic chapter 20

Side Discussion

Just got posted tonight; let’s talk about it!

Was anyone else taken a little aback by the sort of abrupt reveal at the end of the chapter where Hermione realized, watching Theo’s brief groomsman speech, that Draco and Theo were pledging themselves to Neville and his cause? I feel like so many of this story’s beats have made perfect sense to me but that one felt a little jarring to me; Hermione’s epiphany during that speech left me a little like “ok then, sure? I guess?” Lol. I admire Neville’s cause but I also want Draco to, you know, stay alive, because it’s my sincere wish for this story to become a series and get to see Draco as a psycho simp DILF years in the future. He would be an adorably obsessed dad

I picture him as a SAHD that supports her as Minister and has a small side job of helping Neville rid the world of Death Eaters. Only a couple hours a week, nothing that would qualify him for insurance or other benefits.

To me it felt like the writer was leaving a door open for a future installment. But same, I didn’t like it because I want Draco to take it easy (become a master potion maker, angel investor, dad, Hermione’s campaign manager, whatever). In fact, I wouldn’t mind 10 slice of life epilogue chapters of Draco just luxuriating in the feeling of finally being loved by Hermione and being silly and adorable.

Loved the confession scene and Narcissa’s acknowledgement of Hermione as the perfect fit for Draco.

Was curious what Hermione meant when she ‘remembers a conversation she had with Pansy in a muggle hotel bar’ (I do not remember this scene).

Otherwise, this might be my favorite Dramione fic I’ve read yet!

I thought that bar scene was quite memorable! It was Pansy telling Hermione all Draco wants is to be loved and be a dad, and is a big mummy’s boy. That and she’s shagging Neville so much she’s going blind.

Hahahaha thank you for the reminder.

I’d adore a series of slice of life one-shots/chapters of basically Draco just living his happy, bon vivant, “big wife guy energy” life, skipping through years (like over a decade or so) so we can see, say, Hermione advance in her career, maybe they have a kid, etc

Yes, would love to see a time skip!

By joining Neville, he's getting the chance to redeem himself? maybe?

Yeah totally. I think the one part that made me go “wait…” is just Hermione’s inner monologue reference to knowing he may show up bloodied/dying on the floor again in future like he had that night; at first I was like “is author suggesting likelihood of bad ending for him, or…?” but then I felt like nah, probably just sprinkling in a little mild threat of danger since, as another comment mentioned, this may turn into a series and if so, I’m sure author wants it to feel like there are some stakes. But based on this story thus far I don’t think she’d kill Draco

But yeah, otherwise I think helping Neville can totally be a redemption avenue for Draco

I envision it as his side job that gives him some purpose and utility, in addition to supporting Hermione's career and being a SAHD. And I think it makes sense for Draco's arc to find redemption and peace for himself, outside of being a husband, a son or potentially a father. I don't think it's fair to him to find that salvation and acceptance through Hermione alone; I don't think he'll find it in the blood of death eaters either but I think it's important for him to go through that journey himself, to stop beating himself up and sacrificing himself because he doesn't think he's worth it. This chapter was that first step - he wanted to come back to her. But next time, hopefully, he'll come back for himself.

I agree, and while others have said this chapter feels rushed - to me it kind of sprinkled a bit of his future involvement, while I also did not need 7k action fast paced chapter focused on the mission.

This is the first chapter of the fic that felt rushed to me. I feel like the climax of the story went by in a flash. I thought the scene with Draco confronting the Death Eaters should have been two chapters vs part of the wedding one.

I do think the end of the chapter does leave some things open ended for a potential sequel but that depends on if chapter 21 is an epilogue or not.

I felt like the whole chapter was rushed! And yes, also felt weird that she realized they were committing to Neville’s cause but I think because it’s Neville she let it pass because it’s for “good” and I think it’s easier to be on board with that. Moving forward if Draco ever goes undercover with death eaters, at least she knows for sure where he is grounded. That was how I rationalized it at least.

The chapter felt rushed to me as well. I was surprised the Panville Wedding and the Avery confrontation was all one chapter. I feel like it was such a slow pace through the first 3/4 of the story and then things got kind of rushed right at the end.

The author spent so much time talking about Pansy’s previous outfits I was shocked by the lack of description of the gown and everything. But I’m grateful for the chapter. I wonder if the author felt pressured to post on time.

Interesting, I read this more that Draco and Theo pledged their loyalty to Neville because of who he is to Pansy just like how Theo pledged his loyalty to Hermione for Draco.

I didn’t interpret it as Draco necessarily being involved directly with Neville’s cause constantly but more that Draco feels responsible for protecting the people he considers ‘his’ (Theo, Hermione, Pansy and now Neville) because the war has taught him that there will always be people out there willing to hurt them and that it’s always a possibility those people will succeed. Until Draco is able to heal and come to terms with his role in the war, he won’t be able to feel secure enough to start to let it go and will continue ti take every slight towards him and his as a declaration of war that must be responded to violently.

It sounds like I might be wrong but I go agree that him helping some with Neville’s cause I get, but I see Draco as someone who doesn’t play well with others typically so him getting heavily involved in Neville’s thing doesn’t make as much sense to me and also feels like he’a going backwards.

No you’re not wrong they did it bc of Pansy, but regardless of the motive, the outcome is still the same. Draco putting himself at risk to fight death eaters and Hermione remarking to herself that he may show up bleeding again in future

Yeah I do feel like he needs to grow and overcome his desire to physically fight for Hermione. Like if it’s necessary then sure go at it, but seeking it out seems like he can’t let go. I am not sure how they’ll resolve that in one chapter, maybe in the epilogue?

"Hermione felt her chest and back prickle and tingle, like bad things happened, like the past would just keep repeating itself until you understood it, like sometimes you had to do something terrible to change the future, like sometimes you had to do something painful to change yourself, as she realized that Theo had just married his and Draco’s loyalty to Longbottom—that this wasn’t the last time Draco would portkey home covered in blood, that they would all keep doing what they thought they had to do until they had put the past to rest."

To me this means Draco is doing it because he knows he will have to do it and that he would do it. And that nothing really has changed. He doesn't want anymore young boys being brainwashed like him. During the Goyle Manor scene, the young boy that made an impression on him was mentioned, and Draco knowing that he is "their way in." I also think he will do it because they will be a threat to Hermione. It's not only Draco and Theo who is in. It's Bill and George, and I think maybe Charlie too?

I'm more curious about Harry. It seems like he is catching on.
