easyJet has unveiled plans to boost its network across the United Kingdom by opening a base once more in London Southend (SEN).

According to the latest update, the reopening is scheduled for March 2025. By this time, the airline expects to have a fully operating crew from this location.

London Southend was previously an easyJet base. However, when the global pandemic hit, this location became one of the many casualties as the airline attempted to reshuffle its network to ensure profitability. Cutting London Southend as a base during the pandemic was one of the many difficult decisions undertaken by the airline during the early 2020s.

Now, the new base will become the tenth across the United Kingdom and, per the major budget carrier, will allow 130 new job opportunities to open.

As part of its commitment to London Southend, the airline will deploy its state-of-the-art next-generation Airbus A320neo fleet from 2025. Once opened, the airline expects to offer flights to leading destinations such as Pisa, Gran Canaria, Dalaman, Antalya, Enfidha, and Marrakech.

While these were announced as the initial destinations, more will be announced in due course. The base reopening is part of a broader strategy to make the most of growth across its network than can be captured.

London Southend is excited to see the base reopening and highlights its importance for the local people of London, Essex, and the broader East Anglia region. For those based here now, travel will be easier thanks to easyJet, which has greater accessibility to the well-connected network offered by the budget carrier.

London Southend celebrates the announcement that from March 2025, easyJet will re-open a base at the airport with state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo aircraft.

Additionally, the airport highlights the importance of creating and supporting hundreds of new jobs associated with the base re-opening.

easyJet Also Posts Results

easyJet also took the time to provide a financial update on its half-year results. These results indicated that the airline lost USD 445 million during winter.

While the airline can be disappointed with its performance during the year’s colder months, this is still an improvement year over year.

During the half-year, the airline also increased its overall capacity by about 12% and carried 36.7 million passengers.

Despite obvious frustrations over the performance of the winter months, the summer months are expected to be hugely important for easyJet. The airline’s CEO notes that bookings are surging, with greater results expected than 2023’s summer schedule.
