Hunter, Gaspar, and Johnson Receive Big West Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners Kaia Johnson, Logan-Ray Gaspar, and Dani Hunter each earned All-Big West honors for their efforts in the 2024 campaign, the conference office announced in a release Wednesday afternoon. Hunter earned All-Conference Freshman Team, while Johnson and Gaspar both earned honorable mention on the back of two great offensive seasons.

Kaia Johnson, the speedy center fielder, made a huge leap offensively this season, finishing with a batting average of .287 playing in 51 games on the year. She finished the season leading Bakersfield in stolen bases (25), triples (3), total bases (51), runs (24), and tied for first in hits (39). She also placed top three with doubles (6), RBI (15), slugging percentage (.375), walks (7), and on-base percentage (.353). The redshirt-junior also made school history twice this season. First on February 23rd when she stole four bases in a single game versus Montana, and later reset the single season stolen base record versus UC Santa Barbara swiping her 17th bag of the year.

Logan-Ray Gaspar, a first-year transfer from Abilene Christian University, proved to be one of the most consistent bats in this Roadrunner offense as she batted .310 on the year. She tied for the team lead with Johnson (39) and was one of the harder CSUB athletes to strike out amongst qualified batters. Gaspar displayed a balance of power and discipline as she was one of the harder `Runners to strikeout, led the team in walks, and tied for third on the team in extra base hits (6). The junior led the team in multi-hit games (8) and proved to be a centerpiece for CSUB Softball heading into the next year.

Dani Hunter, a true freshman from Stockton, Calif., did not take long to get comfortable at the Division 1 level finding herself top five in just about every major statistic. She was top five in hits (29), doubles (4), home runs (2), RBI (36), walks (12), on-base percentage (.370), and total bases (36). Hunter had the team’s season longest hitting streak (11 games), reached base streak (15 games), and multi-RBI games (3) for Bakersfield this season. Coach Olivarez found ways to keep Hunter’s bat in the lineup whether it was in the circle, at first base, or as a designated player. Hunter looks to be a huge building piece for the `Runners as she enters year two in the Olivarez era.
