BREAKDOWN COMING UP IN JUST A FEW MINUTES. HE IS THE MAN FROM MARCELINE, RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING AN ENTIRE WORLD, INSPIRING THE IMAGINATIONS OF US ALL AS WE CELEBRATE DISNEY’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY, WE’RE LOOKING BACK ON THE IMPACT WALT DISNEY HAD FROM HIS HOMETOWN IN MISSOURI TO HIS STUDIO IN KANSAS CITY. ALL THE WAY TO CALIFORNIA IN A KMBC NINE NEWS EXCLUSIVE, JACKSON KURTZ TRAVELED TO BURBANK TO SPEAK WITH THE DISNEY ANIMATOR KNOWN FOR HIS LOVE OF PRINCESSES. I’LL START WITH A MICKEY. ALL RIGHT, LET’S SEE HERE. WITH EACH THOUGHTFUL STROKE, HIS ART COMES TO LIFE. WHEN YOU SIT DOWN AND I DO SOME OF THESE CHARACTERS LIKE THIS. IT’S KIND OF LIKE OPENING A BOX OF MEMORIES. SOMETHING LIKE THAT. CHARACTERS THAT LEGENDARY DISNEY ANIMATOR MARK HENN HAS BEEN DRAWING FOR OVER 40 YEARS. IT WAS A LIFELONG DREAM FOR ME. IT WAS A BOYHOOD DREAM. DUBBED THE PRINCESS GUY, I GOT TO DRAW BUBBLES. WHEN YOU DRAW THE MERMAID FOR HIS WORK DRAWING DISNEY PRINCESSES AND MOVIES LIKE ALADDIN, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, MULAN AND THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. ONE OF THE NICEST COMPLIMENTS I GET THESE DAYS IS PEOPLE COMING UP AND SAYING, YOU ANIMATED MY CHILDHOOD AND THAT MEANS A LOT. HE STARTED HIS CAREER AT DISNEY AND A LITTLE BIT OF HIS BODY HERE, DRAWING NONE OTHER THAN MICKEY MOUSE. I WAS FLOORED, NO PRESSURE TO ME, MICKEY’S A GREAT ACTOR. THIS WAS A GREAT, YOU KNOW, ROLE FOR HIM. AND SO THAT’S HOW I LOOKED AT IT. I SAT OUT A LITTLE BIT, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST KIND OF JUMP IN THE DEEP END AND AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. IT WAS A REAL TREAT. THE ARTIST BEHIND SIMBA AND THE LION KING IS NOW RECENTLY RETIRED. IT WAS JUST A LOT OF FUN, BUT HE STILL CALLED IN FOR ADVICE AND GUIDANCE FOR HIS SHARP. I’M VERY THANKFULLY BLESSED TO HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY. AFTER HIS YEARS OF DISNEY ARTWORK THAT HAS GIVEN FANS COUNTLESS MEMORIES OF CHARACTERS THAT WILL LIVE FOREVER, I’LL BE SITTING HERE DRAWING AND I’LL THINK I’M IN THE DISNEY STUDIOS, SITTING HERE DRAWING WHATEVER IT IS. MICKEY, DONALD, AND JUST SAY, OH MY GOSH, I MEAN, HOW BLESSED AM I? HAKUNA MATATA FROM BURBANK, CALIFORNIA. JACKSON KURTZ, KMBC NINE NEWS. THAT’S PRETTY COOL. SO COOL. KMBC NINE IS CELEBRATING KANSAS CITY’S CONNECTION TO DISNEY ALL MONTH LONG. A WEEK FROM FRIDAY, THE NEW DISNEY 100 EXHIBIT OPENS AT UNION STATION. BUT BEFORE THAT HAPPENS, COME WEEK NINE IS THE ONLY LOCAL STATION TAKING YOU INSIDE THE DISNEY ARCHIVES IN CALIFORNIA TO EXPLORE THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MISSOURI’S OWN WALT DISNEY FROM HIS HOMETOWN OF MARCELINE TO HIS STUDIO IN KANSAS CITY AND BEYOND. TUNE INTO OUR SPECIAL DISNEY 100. THE MAN FROM MARCELINE.
