Netflix viewers already demanding second series of ‘amazing’ new Irish crime thriller you can watch in a day

TV thriller fans are going wild for a dark Irish comedy series that just premiered on Netflix last week.

When it comes entertainment iterations from The Emerald Isle, Netflix usually offers the cream of the crop.

If you’re looking for a slice of Ireland, subscribers can feast on the six-episode drama series Obituary or stream the gut-wrenching documentary Walking the Titanic.

The platform also featured the Netflix Original series Rebellion, Hard Times and the gritty movie Siege of Jadotville.

However, there’s a new offering capturing the attention of the masses - Bodkin. You can watch the trailer for this offbeat mystery series below:

The drama show, created by Jez Scharf, is set in the Irish coastal town of Bodkin and consists of seven dramatic episodes.

Starring former Saturday Night Live cast member Will Forte as American podcaster Gilbert Power and Siobhán Cullen as investigative journalist Dubheasa ‘Dove’ Maloney, Bodkin has viewers hooked.

The thriller begins with Gilbert travelling to a small town to investigate a spate of mysterious disappearances from decades ago.

However, when the true-crime podcaster is grudgingly joined by Dove, the pair clash over research approaches.

But as mind-boggling clues arise, the unlikely duo must work together to piece together the real-life story behind this increasingly shocking narrative.

Following Bodkin’s premiere on May 9, fans have flocked to social media to have their say.

One user of X wrote: “#Bodkin was great. 2nd season please.”

Another said: “If you having a chilled Sunday at home, you could do a lot worse than watching #Bodkin on @netflix. A constantly twisting plot line, a village with secrets, fab characters and a hefty chunk of dark humour. Very enjoyable.”

“I binged Bodkin over the weekend! Great mystery show with some funny comedy and moving character development in between,” a third commented.

“Kinda watched it on a whim. And it caught my eye because of Will Forte! Glad I didn’t miss it, and would totally love a season 2.”

A fourth typed: “Binge watched BODKIN while hoping that my train wouldn’t get delayed further (just ended up not getting on it at the end) and my gods, it’s such a treat to watch it.

Bodkin, filmed in West Cork, Wicklow and Dublin during the summer of 2022, currently has a strong rating of 68 percent on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

At the time of writing, it is yet to be confirmed whether the Irish entertainment series will get green-lit for season two.

But there’s no harm in keeping our fingers crossed, right?
