The show, which features neighborhood pets in group therapy led by a dog name Honey, all tackling their uncontrolled anxieties, unresolved traumas, and rampant narcissism, was not renewed by the network.
FOX has just confirmed that the animated comedy HouseBroken has not been renewed for Season 3. The network stated, “FOX can confirm that the animated comedy Housebroken will not return for a third season. FOX was pleased with the creative on the series, but, unfortunately, the response from viewers wasn’t as strong as it had hoped.”
Writer and producer Jennifer (Jen) Crittenden, after 13 years working on live-action comedy series like Seinfeld and Veep, returned to the world of animation (she began her career on The Simpsons), and along with co-creators Clea DuVall (The Intervention), and Gabrielle Allan (Scrubs), developed HouseBroken, a 2D adult animated series on FOX that follows a group of anthropomorphic neighborhood pets – dogs, cats, tortoises, pigs, primates, fish, and hamsters – led by a therapy dog named Honey. As the animals all take part in Honey’s group therapy sessions, the series explores each pet’s individual backstory and struggles, from textbook anxiety and teenage hormones to chronic loneliness, unresolved trauma, and narcissism.
The show premiered in 2021; it scored an early Season 2 renewal even before all Season 1 episodes had aired. The cast includes Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, Tony Hale, Nat Faxon, Jason Mantzoukas, Sharon Horgan, Sam Richardson, and DuVall. HouseBroken premiered in 2021. A Million Little Things’ Kapital Entertainment and Bob’s Burgers’ Bento Box Entertainment produce.
