Here's how the new Office series connects to the original U.S. series

Hint: it's all about the paper.

Oh my God! Okay! It’s happening! Everybody stay calm!

The newest iteration of The Office has officially been picked up by Peacock — and its logline confirms that the upcoming comedy does in fact have its own very special connection to the beloved Steve Carell-led series.

It reads, “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

Yep, you read that right. More than a decade after they spent eight years of their lives to chronicling the complicated personal and professional lives of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s Scranton branch, the original documentarians are shifting their focus from selling paper to selling the paper.

We also know some of the lovely individuals who will soon be standing on the opposite side of their camera lenses. Last month, it was announced that Star Wars alum Domhnall Gleeson and The White Lotus' Sabrina Impacciatore had both been cast in the series.

The show, which was created by Michael Koman and the U.S. Office creator Greg Daniels, is set to begin production in July. It is executive produced by Daniels, Koman, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, Banijay Americas, and the creators of the U.K. Office Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

"It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” NBCUniversal Entertainment President Lisa Katz said in a press release. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."
