Mitchell McClenaghan said that CSK badly missed the services of Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana in their IPL 2024 match against GT on Friday, May 10 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both pacers are not a part of the Super Kings anymore for the ongoing edition of the T20 league.

Mustafizur is currently playing in the 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Pathirana, on the other hand, returned to Sri Lanka to get treatment for his hamstring injury. On Friday, CSK felt their absence after the Titans racked up a massive score of 231 for 3 on the board and eventually won the match by 35 runs.

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill took the CSK bowlers to the cleaners with a partnership of 210 runs for the opening wicket in 17.2 overs. Tushar Deshpande removed both batters in the 18th over, but by then, the damage was already done. Refelcting on CSK's dismal bowking performance, McClenaghan said that Pathirana and Mustafizur would have found a way to stop the rampaging GT batters.

“CSK showed that they desperately missed Pathirana and Mustafizur because of their experience and wicket-taking ability. On that kind of a wicket, you would have got a feeling that they would have found a way,” McClenaghan told ESPNcricinfo.

CSK had to rely on Daryl Mitchell to bowl four overs: McClenaghan

The former Kiwi pacer also said that Daryl Mitchell bowling his full quota of overs is not ideal for CSK by any stretch of the imagination. Although he scored 63 off 34, Mitchell had a rough day with the ball after finishing with expensive figures of 4-0-52-0.

Today, they had to rely on Daryl Mitchell to bowl four overs and that’s not ideal,” he added.

Chasing a huge score of 232, CSK could only get themselves up to 196 for 8 in 20 overs. With the defeat, the Super Kings slipped to fourth in the table with 12 points and a net run rate of +0.491 thanks to wins in 6 out of 12 matches.
