Can this be played as a single player game?
Yup
As others have said but I would recommend changing up some of the custom server options as the game is balanced around multiplayer and pvp. Some of the default settings don't make much sense for solo play.
Enable teleport with items
Bump up the material gathering a bit (1.5/2x)
Increase hunt yields
Increase crafting speed
Is this too late to do once you’ve started the game already?
If you've already started a game then in the main menu go to load game (don't press continue), pick your world and then down the bottom right somewhere is something 'edit' and you can change the settings there.
Unless things are going to be different, yeah, it’ll be too late. Only way to change server settings on PC is by editing files.
This is not true.. there is a built in menu to adjust all the above mentioned settings.
Yeah, I've only played solo and really enjoy it. The PVE stuff is really fun.

Very good (non-cosmetic MTX-free, btw) game which was content-complete from the very start of the early access on PC and only got better (much better) on release. Stunlock studios went all out with this one. They were transparent from day one and actually gave the game a full release after a couple of years. Respect

Afaik its a self published game that was on PC early access for 2 years (released like a month or so ago) so prob not.

Is it kind of like the Conan or Arc games?
Only in the sense that there is base building. It’s like Diablo II meets Conan. ARPG combat with base building that has progression tied to the bosses you kill.
Nice, sounds pretty fun. I think I’ll wait for a price drop since I have so many games to play already, but it’s now wishlisted.

Yeah you can basically tweak pretty much all of the settings to your liking

This game can be played solo and it is absolutely still fantastic
Should be playable with friends via online coop with saves stored on your console storage/cloud storage (similar to PC)
We don't have official wording on crossplay for the PS5 version. The PC version allows players to join online dedicated servers. If this functionality comes to PS5 then technically we may have something that counts as 'crossplay' unless they limit servers to PC onlies which would be weird and annoying.
This game is like a bunch of games, but it is very much its own thing. And it gets better the further in you get.
Games like this make my head explode
I'll wait for a retail version in europe. But i'm really looking forward.
