May 16th, 2024 – Development Update

This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Twitter user @CpuGeta486! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below!

We are pleased to share an updated Development Roadmap with you this week! You can find it below.

On Tuesday, we released a new test build (1.37.18.0) to those community volunteers enrolled in the Sim Update 15 public beta. We expect this to be the final SU_15 release build unless there are any blocking issues identified by the community beta testers.

Earlier today, we also released a small update to all players. This update includes new navdata (AIRAC cycle 2405). Additionally, for players enrolled in the SU_15 beta, today’s update also includes the next round of approved airport improvements submitted by World Hub closed alpha participants. These airport updates will be made available to all simmers with the full release of SU_15.

Community Fly-In Friday

This week, we’re taking a pause from the Community Fly-In Friday World Tour to re-create an important milestone from aviation history, the first scheduled air mail flights in the United States!

https://postalmuseum.si.edu/the-1918-flights

On May 15, 1918, two groups of aviators carrying scheduled mail for the first time in the USA departed in Curtiss JN-4 Jenny aircraft from Long Island, New York and Washington, DC. They both made a stop at the mid-way point in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before continuing on the rest of the way.

In commemoration of this event, we will re-fly both routes! You can choose your preferred departure, either New York or Washington. We are recommending that players enrolled in the option SU_15 beta choose the Washington (KDCA) departure and players on the regular release build choose the New York (KFRG) departure, but this is not a strict requirement.

Both groups should arrive in Philadelphia at approximately the same time.

Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate!

Community Video

For our Community Video this week we join FlightSim Experience for a trip over Alaska in the brand new Dornier Do-31, which released as Local Legend 15 earlier this year.

With a plethora of cinematic shots across a variety of sequences and stages of flight, this is another impressive production from FlightSim Experience. We’re always very impressed with their work, and look forward to seeing more in the near future!
