Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ And ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ Are Still Chart Hits To This Day

Following

Nirvana’s album Nevermind isn’t just a commercial success; it’s become a must-own for any record collector or rock fan. Despite being out for decades, it continues to sell well, thanks to its legendary status and its position as a project that millions not only listen to, but study. The full-length, along with the band’s biggest single, which is featured on that title, are both still charting hits in America.

Nevermind appears on four Billboard charts this week, rising on four of them. Even on the only one where it declines, the title only experiences a minor slip.

In the past week, the album moved another 10,753 equivalent units, with 919 copies sold, according to Luminate. Streaming consumption made up the bulk of those thousands of other units.

Nirvana’s grunge masterpiece rises highest on the Top Alternative Albums chart, nearly cracking the top 10 once again. This frame, it lifts from No. 12 to No. 11. Nevermind is back inside the top 20 on the Top Rock Albums tally this frame. It improves by just one space to settle at No. 20. On the slightly more inclusive Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster, that project moves up one spot, making a home for the frame at No. 24.

The Billboard 200 is the only chart where Nevermind isn’t able to climb. The set steps back a few spaces, tumbling to No. 115 after appearing at No. 112 last period. Nirvana’s blockbuster release has hit No. 1 on all four of the aforementioned tallies.

As Nevermind pushes forward, the most successful single from the album is also rising, though not by much. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is present on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, and it’s coming up on three years on that tally alone. This frame, the smash is up to No. 22—one rung higher than last period.
