Mix martial arts fans and many other sports fans can't really believe that a guy that nearly died is now one of the most popular fighters of this day. And the fighter himself can't believe it either.

Lerone Murphy has spoken once more about that changing moment in his life hours before his headlining fight against Edson Barboza in UFC Vegas 92 this Saturday night.

11 years ago, Murphy was shot in the face and doctors helped not only save his life, but also reconstruct his face to look as normal as it ever was.

The brit fighter remembers how his life has changed after that terrifying moment and what he recognizes now about his undefeated career.

"It feels like a simulation, it just doesn't feel real, sometimes I have to pinch myself because it's like I'm in a dream, it's strange, it's night and day the contrast, I look back and it's ten years now," Murphy said in an interview.

"If somebody said where you'd be in ten years, it wouldn't be here, it definitely wouldn't be here. I've worked hard so it's no surprise, I've wearied my eyes of so, I've been through a lot and I've dragged myself out, I've dragged myself out of the trenches and we're here today."

What happened the day he was shot?

It was May 25, 2013. Lerone Murphy, a 21-year-old man from Manchester, England, left a barbershop when he was shot three times, two in the face and one in the neck. The Englishman maintains that it was a mistake. A failure that almost cost him his life, since he was in the hospital for several weeks in a very serious condition.

A piece of bullet embedded, for life, in his tongue is the only sequel he had left. He was born again. The doctors, after the facial reconstruction they had to do, were clear with him: "it was a miracle."

That day, Murphy was born again. The event, logically, was traumatic, but seen in perspective, he values it as something positive and now he can go on with his life proudly.
