Waterloo to Niagara Falls

Hello!

I need to find the route from Waterloo to Niagara Falls using Country side route/HW 7/HW8. I understand the fastest route is HW401, however these days I am not comfortable using 401.

Could you please guide me. I tried google map but did not find it very useful.

Thank you.

Google maps has an avoid highways option when looking for directions.

Hi M C;

The 401 runs east/west. From Waterloo, you need to drive south. No need for the 401 at all.

Sorry...my edit period timed out.

Continue south on Hwy 8 to Highway 5

Take Hwy 5 east to Hwy 6.

Take Hwy 6 south and then continue along to route that Google suggested.

Best Regards

Do you want to avoid all highways or just the 401? phpr's route is good for avoiding all highways and Rescue Team's route is good to avoid just the 401. We've done the drive a number of times from Waterloo Region and we like to avoid the 401 and Highway 6 and the Burlington Skyway. So we take Hwy 8 to Hwy 52 near Copetown (as does phpr's route), but we then get on the 403 to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, get off at the Red Hill Valley Parkway to the QEW into Niagara. This takes just under 2 hours. If traffic is showing bad on the QEW, or we're visiting wineries on route, we continue on the smaller roads instead of taking the Red Hill Valley Parkway.
