Xbox “Y” and Triggers not working in game

Question

This is strange. For the last two days, Fallout 76 does not respond to the “Y” button (jump/jetpack) or the trigger buttons in-game.

All three work fine in workshop mode, and they work fine in other games and in the Xbox dashboard

I have an Xbox Series X and the controller updated its firmware as recently as an hour ago (this issue was happening before and after this firmware update).

Is this a known issue? Does anyone know of a fix?

I know there’s a lot of “literally unplayable” memes, but this is one case in which it does actually make the game unplayable.

Hmmm...I wonder "Y" that's happening to you.

Have you tried to use you controller in other games to confirm it's a FO76 issue? Have you reconfigured any controls in the settings by mistake?

Yes, as mentioned in my post, those keys work fine in other games and in the Xbox dashboard, and I definitely have not changed any settings.

I see a report here from a year ago where three same thing was happening in FO76 and there was no explanation or resolution posted.

Just happened to me today while in camp mode.

Me too, I was in camp mode and afterwards both left and right trigger buttons stopped working. When I test the controller in XBox's settings it senses when i pull the triggers and says they're working fine. Go back into FO76 and they don't work.

I have two Xbox controllers and had to update both of them. I wasn’t even using one of them but I had to update it as well and then the buttons all worked again.

I ended up cycling off (like really off, not sleep-off) the Xbox to completely kill FO76. That fixed it for me.
