Whiskey Myers – A Review of Their New Album Tornillo

Whiskey Myers shows its versatility from the opening notes of Tornillo with some creative musical twists on this album. Horn parts straight out of a spaghetti western, robust funk bass lines, and other modern elements add texture and depth to their signature blend of country rock.

About the band

Whiskey Myers began life as an obscure local band from Palestine, Texas a few years ago; but today they have become one of the hottest acts on the scene with sold out shows nationwide and featured songs featured on Kevin Costner Paramount Network series Yellowstone as synced tracks.

Lead singer Cody Cannon strikes up an instant connection with his audience, creating an unbreakable bond through their lyrics. Not afraid to show their darker side with tracks such as “Frogman,” depicting an American Navy SEAL risking his life in Iraq, they don’t shy away from showing it all either.

The band‘s sound combines modern Texas Country such as Reckless Kelly and Cross Canadian Ragweed with blues rock influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Allman Brothers for an infectious mix that is guaranteed to get everyone dancing on any dance floor. Bios

Whiskey Myers aren’t your average band; their music stands out. Their songwriting speaks from personal experience with honesty and direction, detailing celebration, mourning and trials with remarkable clarity and direction. Their roots run deep through East Texas where Cannon, Jeffers and Tate first started creating music together.

Since 2007 when they first emerged onto the scene, the genre-bending band have played over 2,500 shows to steadily growing crowds and sold out all of their headlining tours while opening for big name artists such as Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.

As music critics have raved, and due to chart-topping record releases as well as featuring on two major film soundtracks. Most recently, their song “Stone” reached #1 on iTunes Country after appearing in Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone. Cody Cannon (lead vocals and acoustic guitar), John Jeffers (lead guitar, slide guitar, lap steel guitar vocals and Cody Tate (lead and rhythm guitars), are joined on tour by drummer Jeff Hogg and bassist Jamey Gleaves.

Genre-bending six-piece The Motet are on track for another busy year of touring after selling out shows since their 2007 debut, headlining venues from coast to coast and performing at premier festivals such as Bonnaroo and Stagecoach – not forgetting being hand picked to open The Rolling Stones Chicago stadium show this coming year! With more than 2,500 high-energy live shows under their belts and headlining sold-out venues nationwide. They were even invited by The Rolling Stones themselves as opening act at their Chicago stadium show this coming 2019!

Tornillo, their latest self-produced album from East Palestine, Texas-based group Tornillo was the No. 17 most-played Americana album of 2024 and features hit singles such as Feet’s, Broken Window Serenade and Bury My Bones. Additionally, Yellowstone television series featured their music as part of its first season background soundtrack!

Wiggy Thump Music Festival will make its inaugural appearance in Palestine, Texas on April 20, showcasing Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Brent Cobb and Joey Greer as headliners. Additionally, select festival dates will include direct support of Brandi Carlile, Hank Williams Jr. and Zach Bryan.
