Elizabeth Drysdale Obituary

Elizabeth Carol Drysdale

July 21, 1960 - May 6, 2024

Sacramento, California - Elizabeth C. Drysdale, nee Dacong, a lifelong resident of Sacramento and well-known volleyball coach, passed away on May 6 at age 63 after a long illness.

After earning her degree at California State University Sacramento, Liz worked 25 years in various capacities at California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation headquarters.

But her passion was volleyball, the sport that allowed her to positively impact the lives of hundreds of young women. Liz began coaching at her alma mater, Bishop Manogue High School, while in college. When that school closed and Christian Brothers High School went coed in 1990, Liz and her late brother David began the girls volleyball program there, winning a section championship a few years later.

Liz would later help establish volleyball clubs including Sac Sideout and Ruckus. Both of her children also played and coached volleyball, and several of her players along the way also became coaches at some level.

Liz is survived by her husband of more than 37 years, Don; son Donald and his family (wife Jeanine and daughter Eloise) and daughter Cassandra (Marissa) Drysdale. She is also survived by her sister Denise (Kevin) Farrell; brothers Teddy (Mary) Dacong and Steven (Gina) Dacong; three nieces and two nephews, all in Sacramento. She is preceded in death by parents Ted and Luz Dacong, brothers Stephen and David Dacong, and niece Samantha Dacong.

A vigil will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery & Funeral Center in Sacramento from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15. The funeral ceremony and Mass will be held Thursday, May 16 at that venue after a viewing opportunity at 9 a.m. A brief committal (burial) ceremony and post-funeral reception will follow.

My heart stopped when I heard this today. My condolences to Liz's Husband, children, family and friends. I began working at BPH with Liz and loved her energy and spunk. She was so sweet, and she always had something nice to say. We loved our holidays at work decorations galore. RIP Liz. You are one of a kind and I will miss you.
