Malcolm-Jamal Warner makes his 9-1-1 debut tonight (ABC, 8/7c) in the recurring role of Amir, a friendly nurse with a complicated past. And as you’ll see in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek, he makes quite the first impression Maddie, a former nurse herself.
In the clip above, Maddie senses a kindred spirit in Amir, inspiring her to casually share the darkest and most terrifying moment of her life — the time her ex-husband tried to kill her. (First Doug haunts Chimney on his wedding day and now Maddie’s thinking about him? That couple needs to do some sort of cleaning ritual to rid themselves of this man’s memory forever.)
“I tend to trigger honesty in people, maybe because they feel sorry for me,” Amir responds, referring to the aggressive burn scars covering an entire side of his face. Maddie explains that she was actually inspired to open up by his scrubs, since she was a nurse back in Boston.
We already knew from Amir’s official description that he’s somehow connected to Bobby through their shared pasts, and we have all kinds of theories running through our heads now that we’ve gotten our first glimpse of him. Is he someone Bobby once saved from a fire? Or worse, could he have been in the fire that Bobby accidentally set in Minnesota? As if he needs more trauma dumped on him from that experience.
Regardless of how that mystery unfolds, rest assured that it’s going to be another hectic hour for the 118. Thursday’s episode, “Ghost of a Second Chance,” finds Maddie and Athena teaming up to investigate an abducted mother and her child, while Hen and Karen make another discovery about their new foster daughter. And how’s this for a tease, straight from ABC: “Eddie grapples with unresolved feelings for someone from his past.” (Gasp?)

I LOVE Malcolm-Jamal Warner. My initial guess is that he survived the apartment fire that Bobby inadvertently caused, because trauma dumping is par for the course for these characters 🤣 That tidbit about Eddie honestly scares me…it could either be something amazing, or something awful.
I miss Malcolm-Jamal Warner since The Resident. I vote Minnesota, what happened there was awful. I always hoped they brought one of this fire survivors.
I think he’ll be a great addition to the already great cast…” hurry can’t wait!!! But I will “…
Great show and actors/actresses! I have been awaiting for more! Love this excellent show, brilliant writers and exceptional actors/actresses from the stars to people dueing props
speaking about doug popping in and out …i was blown away when i found out he was married to jennifer in real life. he play the a hole ex psyco husband so well after playing the same role in client list. thought that there waa a hate/hate going on with hewitt. my bad!
Looking forward to Malcolm Jamaal Warner joining the team. Cannot wait to see what his character brings and how he is related to Bobby.
Still hate the romance between Buck with another guy. Bad timing. Not everyone has to be gay. Can we please have some straight couples in a show once in awhile 911 has more gays than straight.
Bless your heart….. or not….
If you were paying attention you would know that he’s not gay. He’s bi-sexual.
If Eddie has unresolved feelings for zBuck I will never watch again. Hope it’s the teacher. She was terrific.
Hello, the end game is going to be buck and Eddie. Get ready to not watch again. Cause it’s coming.
I enjoy the fast paced fire/police/ 911operator dispatch/ medical aspect as well as the multicultural/ diverse/ familial dynamic of this well orchestrated production. The coverage of the medical aspect is up my RN alley! Keep it up crew!
I was excited to hear Buck was done with the death chick because I thought him and the blond fire woman had a lot of chemistry. If they do it again and put Eddie in a relationship with a man I’m done watching. This show acts like men can’t be close friends without being attracted serially. Many, many men are very close friends without it becoming sexual. I figured the network change would be bad.
What happened to his face? Why, what’s the statement they’re trying t o make.
So glad to see Malcolm Jamal Warner move ahead from his last role! I haven’t watched how he’s grown since The Cosby show. Love that guy! However, not too happy with the way the show has scarred him up. He’s such a good looking guy, why did they have to do that? I know it’s part of the storyline but he is such a hunk, it’s a shame to have to scar him that way.
Just hope Malcolm stays on the show because it needs some help when I seen the scarf I new where it was going.please Malcolm
