Kartik Aaryan-starrer Chandu Champion released its trailer on Saturday in Kartik’s hometown Gwalior. It shows Kartik Aaryan as a man who wants to shine and stand out from the crowd from any early age. In a film inspired by the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, Kartik goes from a young man to a soldier, a boxer and ultimately a survivor.

The trailer deep dives into his life, as it shows the titular character across various ages and stages of his life, from dreaming to be a champion in his village, joining the Indian Army, excelling in sports to also getting shot during the 1965 war. It is when bullets are pumped into him that Chandu refuses to give up and rises against all odds. In the trailer, Kartik Aaryan is also shown as an aged man who wants to file a case against the President of India as he lays out his medals.

Director Kabir Khan announced Chandu Champion shortly after the release of his 2021 film 83, based on Indian cricket team’s win at the 1983 World Cup in England. The movie started filming in July 2023. It was then rumoured that the film is based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist who won a gold medal in the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Germany.

The recent posters of the film showed Kartik Aaryan in a ripped look and Kabir, in the comments section, shared that Kartik went from 39 percent body fat to 7 percent body fat for his role in the film. “The story of Chandu Champion is an incredibly inspiring true story but the journey that Kartik went through to become this champion is no less inspiring. I met him when he had put on weight for a role. He had 39 per cent body fat. I told him that he had to portray an international level multi-disciplinary sportsperson. He just smiled and said ‘I will do it Sir’. A year and a half later with no use of steroids – something that he was adamant about – we took this photo on set. Body fat 7 per cent!! I’m proud of you @kartikaaryan,” he shared in the comments section.

Festive offer

In 2023, Kartik had two releases Shehzada and Satyaprem Ki Katha. While Shehzada failed to impress the audience and the critics, Satyaprem Ki Katha did significantly better than the former. After Chandu Champion, Kartik is looking forward to the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

Chandu Champion releases in theatres on June 14.
