Bollywood occasionally comes up with such mind-blowing films that it stays with you for months or even years for its story and cast performance. One of those films is the Aamir Khan and Kajol-starrer Fanaa, released more than a decade ago but left a big mark on its audience.

Fanaa is one of those films which is remembered as a bitter-sweet memory by the audience. The film showcased some of the most unexpected and biggest twists ever in Indian cinema, rendering the public speechless and even slightly hurt.

Dubbed as a romantic thriller, the film is led by some of the biggest names in Bollywood, Aamir Khan and Kajol. The two were cast as each other’s love interest, where Kajol played the role of a blind girl while Aamir was seen as a tour guide, who was later revealed to be an IKF officer. The film ends with a very tragic part as Rehan (Aamir Khan’s character) dies in Zooni’s (Kajol’s character) arms after being shot. The character of Aamir’s Rehan Khan was highly appreciated by the audience and Kajol’s performance of a blind person received a lot of acclaim.

Apart from Aamir Khan and Kajol, the film also starred Rishi Kapoor, Kirron Kher and Tabu in important roles. Rishi Kapoor played the role of Zooni’s father, Zulfikar Ali Beg, while Kirron Kher was seen as her mother, Nafisa Ali Beg. It was made under the direction of Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. The film’s songs and scores were done by Jatin-Lalit and Salim-Sulaiman, respectively. The cinematography was handled by Ravi K Chandran and the editor was Ritesh Soni. It is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Released on May 26, 2006, Fanaa was made under a budget of Rs 30 crore and went on to collect Rs 103 crore at the box office. It reportedly became the sixth highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year. Kajol earned the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance.
