What did you miss?
Bridgerton stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton have revealed they had to reshooting a romantic scene several times because they kept getting the giggles.
Netflix’s regency era hit is back for a third series, which will see Coughlan and Newton's characters Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton get steamy. Penelope and Colin have been close for a long time but take things to the next level when the friendship becomes a romance.
During an appearance on This Morning, the pair confessed that on one occasion they kept laughing “uncontrollably” while they were filming – leaving the crew less than impressed.
What, how and why?
Coughlan and Newton were chatting to the ITV programme’s Alison Hammond, who had visited the Bridgerton set to meet the cast. She asked what it was like getting romantic for the cameras seeing as they are good friends in real life.
“Those moments where we have to do super romantic scenes with one another… we had one in this room where I had to talk about how beautiful his eyes are and we just couldn’t stop laughing,” Coughlan confessed.
“Uncontrollably to the point that the crew didn’t find it funny after, like, the first 20 times. It’s like, ‘Your eyes are so beautiful’ and we are like (squirms).”
Newton added: “We are quite lucky that we know each other, we don’t have to jump in with someone new.”
What else did the Bridgerton stars say?
Coughlan and Newton are making the move from being more supporting characters to main cast this series, which Newton told Hammond was “wild”.
“It feels like we have had two years leading up to this moment and like the rest of the world has shared that with us,” he said. “Everyone is kind of rooting for us.”
Bridgerton debuted in 2020 and viewers were quickly gripped by the drama and sizzling romances. A second season followed in 2022, with the third due to land on May 16. A fourth series is also in the pipeline.
