"Bald eagles once teetered on the brink of extinction, reaching an all-time low of 417 known nesting pairs in 1963 in the lower 48 states. Now, the bald eagle population has climbed to an estimated 316,700 individual bald eagles, including 71,400 nesting pairs."
It wasn't all that long ago that if you wanted to see an eagle in Ohio, you had to drive a bit, or at least have some insider knowledge of where there were nests. I remember driving out to the Old Dutch Tavern in Sandusky to see the nest behind the building.
Nowadays eagles are getting so common in Lorain County that eagle enthusiasts have a selection of where to go to see them, from Avon Lake to Lorain to Vermilion and beyond, including the southern part of the county.
But that wasn't the case back in May 1964, when the above article appeared in the May 5, 1964 Journal. Eagles were still newsworthy, and this article focuses on a nest in Sandusky that apparently had been abandoned after the eaglets that called it home had died.
It's interesting that the article points out that at that point, there were only 487 active nests in the whole country. And I like the puckish placement of a Kentucky Fried Chicken ad right below the eagle article.

Eagles have shown up on this blog a few times, and I don't mean the lodge brothers kind.
This 2014 post told the story of the Eagles of Brownhelm and the Great Nest; this one highlighted Avon Lake's history of eagles living in that community.
I reminisced about eagles on this post, telling how my Dad often mentioned seeing the Great Nest as a toddler in the mid-1920s.

That KFC 15 piece bucket for $3.50 should cost around $35.00 in today's world counting inflation.But with old elderly Joe Biden and his Bidenomics in full force it costs upwards of $46.00 for that very same bucket.Thank you old Joe,I didn't need that money to start with as I didn't have it in the first place.
There is a new 700 home development going through the approval process in Vermilion right now. Probably the biggest development Lorain County has had in quite some time. One of the obstacles to at least a portion of the development has been an active eagles nest on the property. They have decided to build the home around the nest and create sort of a viewing area in the middle of the neighborhood.

Yum! Brands, the owner of KFC, posted the following earnings since 2020:

Note how their earnings have increased each year. So, yeah, Joe Biden has lots to do with the price of KFC Chicken.
I don't know if I'd like to live with a couple bald eagles, ready to swoop down and kill my dog or cat.
And... let's take a moment to credit the various and sundry conservationists for their success in convincing those in power that rebuilding the eagle population was possible.

I have it on good authority that Biden called Col. Sanders and commanded him to increase prices as rapidly as possible.
In addition to the residents not wanting an eagles' nest in their midst, imagine how the birds would feel about it.
Technically, if their earnings didn't go up every year, they would not be in business. Increasing earnings is the foundation of any "for-profit" business. Just like all of us, our earnings better go up each year or we are in trouble. Agreed, it doesn't matter who the president is.
And if you think their earnings are growing too fast, then by all means purchase some shares in that company and let them share the wealth with you.
When you are competing in rifle matches at Camp Perry the officials maintain an eagle watch. If they spot an eagle they run up the "Cease Fire" flag and shooting stops. I remember one time I was in the prone position in my 1" thick shooting jacket just sweating away while the great bird flew back and forth. Whew!
When you are working in the pits scoring targets you are under the command of a real drill sergeant some times. One year we had a guy who might have been R Lee Ermey! "Listen up! When you are on this range you will not allow any harm to come to this great symbol of the United States of America. Should that ever happen you will suffer the wrath of God and even worse, the wrath of a U S Marine Corps drill sergeant!"
I bet a lot of people today don't know that KFC used to be called Kenny Kings.Or they don't even know that KFC stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken.But their chicken is bad for you no matter what they call themselves or how much profit they earn.
