RIGHT NOW UNDER THE INVESTIGATES TAB. TONIGHT ONE OF THE OLDEST HISTORICALLY BLACK SORORITIES IN KANSAS CITY IS CELEBRATING 100 YEARS. MU OMEGA CHAPTER KC MO MAYOR PRO TEM REINA PARK, SHAW, WHO IS ALSO A MEMBER HERSELF, SAYS, THIS IS HISTORY. THIS IS MONUMENTAL. TO CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF SISTERHOOD AND SERVICE AND SCHOLARSHIP IS JUST AWESOME, NOT JUST FOR FOR THE KANSAS CITY, KANSAS AREA, BUT KANSAS CITY REGION AS A WHOLE. THE SORORITY BEGAN AS A SAFE SPACE FOR BLACK WOMEN IN THE EARLY 1900S. THE COLLEGE WOMEN THAT WERE JUST ONE GENERATION REMOVED FROM SLAVERY WHO DECIDED TO COME TOGETHER FOR SERVICE TO ALL MANKIND, TO WHERE WE ARE NOW WITH OUR CHARTERING IN 1924, TO 2024, 100 YEARS OF OUR COMMUNITY HERE IN THE KANSAS CITY, KANSAS AREA IS UNHEARD OF. THE CHAPTER SAYS THEY’RE COMMITTED TO ANOTHER 100 YEARS

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated in Kansas City celebrates 100 years
Alpha Kappa Alpha's Mu Omega chapter, one of the oldest historically black sororities in Kansas City, marked its 100th anniversary with a celebration and awards ceremony.The event was filled with applause, cheers, and the sorority's colors of salmon pink and apple green. It celebrated the sorority's milestone and honored individuals and groups making significant contributions to Kansas City."This is monumental to celebrate 100 years of sisterhood, service and scholarship is just awesome, not just for Kansas City region but Kansas City as a whole," said Kansas City Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Park-Shaw.Park-Shaw, also a member of the sorority, emphasized the event's historical significance.Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, the oldest African-American sorority in the U.S., began in the early 1900s as a safe space for black women. The evening also saw the distribution of awards for leadership and service.
