Big casting news has been revealed for Oscar Isaac. With his next role, Isaac has been cast to provide the voice of Jesus Christ in an animated film.

Per THR, Isaac has been cast as Jesus in the animated movie The King of Kings. From the South Korean animation house Mofac Animation, the project will be an animated family film boasting a star-studded voice cast. Along with Isaac in the lead, the film also features Forest Whitaker as the apostle Peter. Other cast members include Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, and Roman Griffin Davis.

The King of Kings will be directed by Seong-ho "Jay" Jang. Anfernee Kim is producing. The screenplay is written by Jang and Rob Edwards (The Princess and the Frog). Jamie Thomason (Spirited Away, The Tigger Movie) and Andrew Mann (Imperium, Gold, Transfusion) are executive producing.

The animated movie follows "Charles (Branagh) and Walter Dickens (Davis) embarking on a multi-dimensional adventure as the master storyteller engages his youngest son’s vivid imagination with the fascinating life of Jesus, his well-known trials and tribulations, and his notable colleagues and foes." The plan is also for the Dickens duo and the family cat, Willa, to interact with Jesus to make the story more accessible to children of all ages.

Isaac has several upcoming projects in the works. After voicing Miguel O'Hara in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the actor will reprise the role for the sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. He is also currently working on Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein movie. This follows the actor's starring role in his own MCU series, Moon Knight, which has been rumored to be getting a second season, though a renewal has not been officially announced. Recently, Isaac was cast to co-star in a vampire movie with Kristen Stewart.

Martin Scorsese Also Has a Jesus Movie in the Works

The casting comes at a time when a major filmmaker is working on a separate film inspired by the story of Jesus Christ. Martin Scorsese is developing a film about Jesus as well following the success of his last movie, Killers of the Flower Moon. Like The King of Kings, Scorsese's film hasn't yet been given a release date.
