Andy Roddick praised Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka as the two best female tennis players of the present time. Both players recently contested the final of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open two weeks ago for the second consecutive year, and Iga Swiatek claimed the title with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(7) victory.
This was the first trophy for the Polish player in Madrid, after having lost in the final the year before, precisely against the Belarusian. This week at the Rome Open, they have once again been dominant against their opponents, with Swiatek already advancing to the semifinals after defeating Madison Keys (No. 16), while Sabalenka awaits her quarterfinal match on May 15th against Jelena Ostapenko (No. 9).

Roddick showers Sabalenka and Swiatek with praise

The 2003 US Open champion spoke on the podcast "Served with Andy Roddick" about the significant achievements both Sabalenka and Swiatek have accumulated in recent years. Roddick mentioned that with Sabalenka's achievements so far, she has already earned a place in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, to which he himself was inducted in 2017:  "Sabalenka now is someone who has won two Slams, has been No. 1 in the world, has a bunch of WTA 1000s. She's a hall of famer already. She just is. My dumb a** is in, she's in, simply," Roddick said.
The American also praised Swiatek, who won the 20th title of her career in Madrid and, at 22 years old, remains at a virtually unstoppable level. Roddick mentioned that Swiatek's results have her on the path to becoming one of the greatest in the history of the sport.

"Swiatek, four Majors, nine WTA 1000 titles already, 20 total titles. You could chop her resume into a third and I think she would still have it. 100, some odd weeks at No. 1 since Ash Barty retired and handed the No. 1 ranking over to her. Swiatek is on her way to becoming one of the best players of all time," Roddick added.
